When a massive DDOS attack (Distributed Denial of Service) sent the anti-scammer-site www.aa419.org ("Artists against 419") offline a few days ago the makers of one of the most important private forums in the field of consumer protection in germany did see it coming. In internal postings they said "It's time for us to get the helmets on".
Now they are down the second day and even the secret passages are impassable at the moment. Bad luck for thousands of German consumers and bad luck for little Hamlet and his friends. A statement from the makers of www.antispam.de - In German (only): http://www.augsblog.de/2007/09/12/an...nter-beschuss/ Sascha, Admin of dialerschutz/computerbetrug (dialerprotection/computer fraud), my homebase, commented "Good luck, boys! And congratulation for your fine success". It's not meant ironically, it's meant pugnaciously. The fight goes on and every attack shows that the fight against scammers is registered - at least by the scammers. I'm glad to be a part of that fight.

The fight goes on
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=42302 Most of the sites are run by enthusiastic amateurs while their attackers are apparently organised criminals looking to make a fast buck. http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/tech-news/?p=1150 http://www.castlecops.com/t201047-Si...er_Attack.html (very slow... also attacked itself?)

The topic of ddos attacks against consumer protection boards in Germany is still on the agenda. This morning the German website antispam.de had 12.555 visitors at the same time, marking an all time record - and most of them were not interested in fighting spammers but in trying to get the site down.
But the attack obviously is not very sophisticated, at least it's not very successful, apart from making the admins better attack by attack. Hats off to the admin crew! (google translated)
