Bulldog goes live with 6Mbps DSL service

Bulldog has unveiled a 6 Mbps DSL service for really bandwidth-greedy home users.

The service - PrimeTime 6000 - is available at 35 unbundled exchanges in London and costs £99.99 (+VAT) a month.

Although the service offers speeds up to 6 Mbps, these higher speeds are only available during evenings and weekends. The rest of the time the service trundles along at a stately 512 kbps.

In a bid to entice punters to sign up to the new service, Bulldog is offering the high speed service around the clock until the end of September. After that, it will revert back to the evenings and weekend schedule.

Bulldog also announced that it is extending the availability of its 1 and 2 Mbps services. Currently available at a limited number of exchanges in the South East, Bulldog is now making its PrimeTime 1000 and 2000 products available at more than 200 exchanges.

Elsewhere, Demon has started offering business customers an uncontended broadband service that it claims costs half as much as a leased line.

Demon Premier Express Gold, is available at DSL-enabled exchanges in the UK although punters need to be within 3.5km for the service to work.

The ISP's 2 Mbps Demon Premier Express Gold service currently costs £7,200 a year. An equivalent two Mbps leased line would cost businesses twice this at around £14,000 a year, said Demon. ®
