Default Dell computers

As I am thinking of a new computer what do you think of this one (the first one) for £348
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/pr...hs1&l=en&s=dhs

I want a computer for word processing, emails and looking at the internet, using the scanner and perhaps, in future, photos from a digital camera.

Also perhaps downloading some music and listening to the radio.

Any thoughts please, or other recommendations.

Many thanks

The Dimension E520?

Fine for your needs mate. Two things about Dell thou, 1)make sure you get a good warranty (will cost more) and 2) watch out for hidden costs that will bump up the end price by £50-100.

Also systems like this tend to be a bit limited when it comes to upgrading later, so try and be sure of your long term needs.

On top of what Puggs says, you'll find that manipulating pictures uses quite a bit of memory, and I'd recommend at least 512Mb RAM and preferably 1Gb.
You might want to have a look at Acer computers amongst others.

As Puggs mentioned, try and ensure that whatever you get is upgradeable, at least for memory.
Do you need to buy another monitor or will your current one suffice...it might save some money ?

Thanks for the replies, will look at Acer. Yes, will need a monitor, I think, as this one keeps going into standby on its own :-), well I presume it's the monitor.

I actually had a Dell Computer on order but was encouraged to cancel and did so - see threads

Worldlife Disconnection Problems

Magazine versus Consumer Reviews

Whilst I appreciate the clean machine that I purchased instead of the Dell I think that beginners to intermediate users might be happier with an integrated bundle such as the Dell.

I did have to push the cancellation of my order as emails to Dell were not answered. Sadly I had to use the phone and the person I eventually spoke to had an accent that was difficult to understand. However when I made a complaint about the lack of response my complaint was dealt with promptly and efficiently.
