Bought a faulty WRT54G V1.1 off ebay.
The dude said it just needed a flash, turns out the power supply is burnt out and the unit work flawlessly as i tested it using the PSU from my WRT54GS V5.1. I have no idea how he didnt see the burn marks on the supply lol. Anyways, i have a 12v powersupply unit @ the right polarity, however, it churns out 800mA when the original throws out 500mA. Worth using it or would it be advisable to get a replacement or use the one i have? |

Hiya.
It should be OK, it will only draw the amperage it needs. If the replacement was less than the original 500mA, it would get hot and probably burn out.

the mA rating is the max available current draw,. so to put it in horsepower terms you might need 5HP to run a lawnmower but if the lawnmower can deliver 8HP you can still use it
voltage is another story though,. that needs to be the right amount and with mA you need to match or exceed the required amount (i.e. couldn't use a 300mA PSU when a 500mA one is specified) xposted w/ JR |
