ive received notifications that email were not received. on looking i was sending links to websites to everyone in my contacts without knowing. straight away i thought this must be a virus. ive run several different antivirus and spyware softwares, nothing detected other than some spyware.
i instantly know when it happened cos the password doesnt work and i need to reset it. I've gone down the line it may be a bug in my msn so i deleted and reinstalled it - that didnt work I then rebooted my laptop to see if it was a bug that couldnt be detected - that didnt work i then thought id see if it was my hotmail account so set up a second address - but it sent them from this address as well so i thought see if its the laptop, and i left it unplugged all day and it still didnt work and sent more emails it even effects my facebook, deletes friends and messages i really am at a loss, anyone got any ideas??? |

Hi,
I received your pm, but I think it's better to answer here. Other than the usual things : Scan pc with several decent antivirus scanners. (including online scanners) Scan pc with spybot search and destroy. If running vista run windows defender. Update your OS. If it still occurs after all this, reinstall your OS and immediately update it. If it still happens after reinstalling your PC and updating it : check none of your friends know your passwords. |

Hi jonni.
Welcome to The Scream! ![]() It sounds like a Spambot/Trojan infection. Can you post a HiJackThis log, we may be able to track down whatever is causing the problem. You can download the HiJackThis.exe from the link below.... http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5554.html << HiJackThis 2.2 Use the second link for MajorGeeks TX - |USA| which is pretty fast. Download it to your desktop for ease of locating, create a folder on the desktop and copy/cut the HJT.exe into that folder and then run it from inside that folder. Accept the agreement and then select Do a system scan and save a logfile Close your Browser before scanning the PC/Laptop Wait till it has finished scanning the PC/Laptop and it will popup a HiJackThis.log in Notepad. Copy the entire contents of the log and post them back here into a reply, so we can see if anything is obviously wrong. What Anti-Virus and Spyware software have you tried, so we dont keep offering things you have already tried. PS. When you paste the log into a reply, put a tick in the Disable Smilies in Text box, which can be found just below the reply window under Additional Options.

If it is malware then maybe a security product that provides real time protection maybe will help find and delete it

Hiya.
That log is clean, except for one erroneous entry which can be safely removed. O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) Run HJT and tick the box for the above entry only, then click on the Fix button. How is it going now, still OK or back again, you didnt say in your last post.

Hiya.
Do you send Emails from your PC email client such as Outlook Express, etc and/or via an online Email client, such as Hotmail, Gmail, etc. If sending from the PC email client, you should notice continuous activity of your connection if the PC is left idle, when the dodgy emails are being sent. If there is no activity, then the emails are likely to have been sent externally. Anyone in your Address book could be infected and the infected parties PC is using your email address to send to other people. Go to the link below and download the MalWareBytes program and install it, let it update and run a scan, if it finds anything, Zap it/them. It is Free for home use under the basic format, but buyable if you want the Pro version It also keeps a log of what it finds, you could post that log back here for perusal, if unsure of what it detected. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Hiya.
Well it found one trojan, although there isnt much info about it on the net. You could empty your Temporary Internet Files folder and then empty the Recycle bin. Also, temporarily disable System Restore as a secondry precaution, which will delete any stored Restore files, then turn it back on to make a fresh one. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...&osv=&osv_lvl= << Turn off/on System Restore. Apart from that, I cant see any other infection problems with your PC at present.
