Seriously guys, don't waste your time and money messing around with your modem... these problems are with Talk Talk, and are chronic and widespread. If you are having problems, then look at changing your broadband supplier, its the only way you are guaranteed to sort your problems out.
Talk Talk will fob you off and take your round and round in circles pretending that the issue is at your end - with your modem, with your phone line, with your exchange, with the setup in your house... but you'll check all this, have the line checked, change your modem, change your setup, blah blah blahhhhh, and the problem will be exactly the same. Its about time someone took TT to court, cos they are pure bullsh*tters. N |

This Broadband is the worst broadband ever, Don't even consider going with them, I've had nothing but disconnects and lag ever since I've been with them, and you get people like TalkTalkBoy who try to blame the customer's usb or modem when in fact it is TalkTalk's fault, and their Customer Support will always say that their connection is fine because they're so far up their a**es that they don't want to admit it, if you ask them why ur connection speed is e.g. 512kbp they will say 'O no your connection speed is 4mbps, it must be a problem with your router' BULL****, if it was a problem with our modems do you honestly think that about a million producted routers are faulty? no, the amount of forums I've seen with people complaining about TalkTalk disconnecting is unreal, there is no way I'm staying with TalkTalk, at the moment I'm trying to find out how to get out of a contract with them, even if it means taking them to small claims court.

I'm also getting constant D/C every five minutes,
The internet light on my router stays green, but then drops within seconds, i restart the router, and the connection drops. This repeats indefinately. This may be pure paranoia, but it seems when i use my phoneline for an extended period of time, the internet seems to work for a about 10-20 mins. Then drooop. I've got three routers - all of them do the same thing so we can rule out that it's the routers causing the problem. All three have worked fine on the connection previously. Can I PM a mod my phone line number to see if i have any issues? |

Hi Atomsforpeace,
This forum is a user forum with no connection with any specific ISP so we can't help directly in that way. Is the router plugged directly into the master socket, do you have anything else connected (extention leads etc) or other phones / answerphone / fax etc connected. Try having just the router plugged in to the master socket and see how that works. Have you tried other filters, also is there audiable noise on the line when you make a phone call? S |

Much to my surprise, talk talk 2nd line fixed this for me....it has been intermittently disconnecting since December, and i could not face the 'have you tried powering it off and on' bs but i took the plunge and called.
An advanced ADSL setting in the router config needed changed to modulation mode - G.DMT. After 4 months of it disconnecting every 3 to 4hrs, it is fixed. Boo 1st line, yeah to 2nd line support. |

I've been a TalkTalk customer for four years and have only had this disconnection problem over the past month or so. I've managed to fix it today simply by connecting a SpeedTouch ADSL micro filter to a telephone socket in the bedroom that wasn't even connected to a telephone. As I'd not had the problem previously I didn't expect it to work, but it has done. If anybody has this trouble and has a telephone socket somewhere in the house without a filter (whether or not a 'phone is connected) do please try this. I ordered mine on Sunday through TalkTalk Members on the homepage and it arrived today - well worth the ten quid it cost me (including postage). Hope this helps somebody, I've been tearing my hair out in frustration!

my mother has a similar problem, has existed on and off for a few weeks but now she has no broadband access.
the speedtouch usb modem seems to be working ok- both green lights on. when she connects she either gets a notification that connection succesful and an indication of a 6 megabit connection but browsing is either painfully slow or non-existant or when she connects it sits at authentication for a minute before failing and then re-trying..... pop3 mail retrieval is either very slow or fails. talktalk 'support' have been no help - i spent an hour on the phone last week to first line support who.. 1: insisted i created a new dialer [even though the existing one worked] to the same settings as the existing one. 2: they did a line test and found no problems. 3: got funny with me when they asked me to turn off the modem, wait and then switch it back on again and i explained [again] it was a usb modem and had no switches! 4: during one of [many] reboots, and i explained my mums laptop wasn't as fast as modern windows 7 machines, the support person then went to great lengths to advise me that the modem wouldn't work on windows 7.... i pretty much had to tellthemtoshut up and listen and maybe take note that they had allready taken the details of the o/s fromme and it was xp!!. 5: tried a winsock catalogue reset via a dos prompt [why??]. after various other pointless tests [ping, for one, but not ipconfig!!] the support person said it was a job for 2nd line.... who then tried most of the above [fuming, but biting my lip at this point!!] and then said the modem needed re-installing using the tiscali disc... i said why as the modem was connecting and showed correct lights,etc... they insisted on sending a new install disc. made no difference [suprise] when the modem was re-installed. sorry for such a long post but basically, my mother has no broadband, and i do not believe the issue is with her laptop. i looked at the talktalk official forum and it seems this problemis commen at present? thanks. steve g. |
