Hi All............ Even JonnyReb.if he is not asleep LOL
A neighbour asked me to check out his computer..............it is infected with more viruses and trogans than I have ever encountered..............48 in total and seems to have infected every single thing on his computer EG epson drivers, and every other program that is loaded. my thought is to remove his HDD and reload windows XP.onto another HDD he has genuine copy of that. a couple of trojans are : sheur3.aqra........... then win32/Zbot.a............. then had a box with file missing pops up .......... missing.... c:\windows\cpap32.dll cant be found. A google search identifys the trogens and to remove them is a long and comlicated procedure. So do yoos agree that the best way forward is to fit new HDD , load Windows XP as he does not have anything on original HDD to save Thanks JT....sorry spellig not great 2 nite LOL |

I would not think that the hdd would need replacing or removing from the pc, as all the malware will be on the hdd,so a format and clean install of window o/s and all the necessary drivers ect should be the very most that should need doing,
A good ant virus or anti spyware app, could also find and remove most of them if not all, super anti-spyware is a free app that is quite good pc tools spyware doctor is even better, but you need to pay to get full benefits, but it's only £6.99 from play.com for 3 pc's but it seems that they have sold all for that price, but http://www.scan.co.uk/products/PC-To...-for-PC-Retail have it in stock for just a little more ,as p&p costs are not free |

Thanks for that tommy, decided to just that, busy formatting away at the moment. The reason I was going to change it was the fact it is only 60Gb. I was going to use one of my many spare 160Gb drives I have lying around.Turns out his is SATA mine are IDE so format and install it is.

60GB a bit on the small side these days of hhd being 2tb , you can pick up a sata II hdd quite cheap upto 500GB in size these days , nothing stopping you adding another later on(providing the mobo has spare sata socket)
