Hello
I recently moved into a property where the phone line was disconected, and I brought sky broadband and phoneline. They tell me that it was activated the other day but when I plug my phone in through a microfilter or not, I get an engaged tone! it's really odd and there is no other phone pluged in anywhere else. I spoke to a tech at Sky who asked me to remove the face plate where I plug the phone in and plug my phone into the test soket but the same problem occured. They ran multiple test's down the line but said that they kept comming back as ok. What can I do now? They said they would log the fault and an open reach engineer would go out and check from the green box onwards but becasue they could not find a fault with my line when testing they were unable to log it as a fault for an engineer visit. The last time I called them was saturday, and they said the openreach tech would take about 48 hours?! not sure how true that is but I will try again tonight and call them again tomorrow unless anyone else can offer some better advice? |

Do you get the line engaged if you ring the number from your mobile?
Sometimes the line will test ok as its going to the wrong location esp if its flats. I take it you are checking from the nte and there isnt another one in the property. |

To be honest I am unsure of the number, I haven’t had anything that tells me and I didn’t ask when I called but I must remember too.
It's a house not flats. But during one of the test's I accidently had the received off the hook and the test came back negative there end for "fault with customers equipment" but a retest came back fine. So it must be my line. By NTE I assume that you mean the main line into the house. Yes I am. It is directly on the other side of the wall to the grey box that feeds off to outside. Also from this grey box has another line comming into the house as an extension. I have tested both lines with and without micro filters. I have also tried two separate phones which I have also tried at other houses and work fine there. Also the modem/router provided by sky sometimes lights green to say that there is an internet connection and then will sometimes be orange... if it’s on at all. There is never an internet connection and I know what I am doing on that side of things. I think that’s about all the information I can give? thanks for your help. |

That could be the problem if you have an extention being feed off the outside instead from the nte (starwired)
That line could be faulty im not telling you just thinking out loud you could remove the extention from grey box to see

Fair enough then. I will try that on the weekend if I can get nothing more from SKY.
I also noticed that inside the nte that a green white cable was not attached to anything but never looks like it has been stripped to be attached to anything and I am unaware if that would affect the test socket. What are my options if removing the extension or sky run out of tallent? are there phone engineers in the yellow pages that could help? I live in Luton, Bedfordshire. |

Scoobs will know a lot more about it - but I'm curious - when you say it rings, do you mean you hear the ringing on the phone you're dialling it from, I take it the actual phone that you are dialling does not ring, did you try picking it up while ringing it?

Hi Silver. I am at work today, I have tried rining the line from my mobile which is where I hear it ring. My partner is at home but she has said that she hasnt heard it ring. I will have more of a play tonight and respond tomorrow.
I have called sky today who said that and engineer hadnt been arranged and they would do so today. I was obviousley frustrated. But I am hoping that should also help. |

If you ring your mobile from your home phone you should be able to confirm that you have the right number for it?

All is fine now. Thanks for your help all.
Sky actually got the BT engineer out and when I gave it a proper check last night I had a message from the engineer on the answer phone telling me all should be sorted. The fact the phone didn’t ring when I called it (now don’t forget I test rang it early in the morning on my way to work) embarrassingly was because the ringer was switched off on the phone. Must have knocked it! Anyway, all works now and the internet which is good. But our area unfortunately only gets 512kbs but I knew that anyway... its just dismal in this day and age! Thanks for your help all, but it simply was a setting in the green box in the end. |
