Hi
Just wondering if replacing the lower portion of the std BT NTE5 box with the "splitter" which has a telephone socket and an ADSL socket, allows one to plug a router directly to this without an intervening modem? I have a Linksys WRT54G, and I note that the ADSL socket on the BT box takes a standard network cable, as opposed to a mini - telecoms cable as is common with most modems... I'm keen to give this a try, otherwise it'll be a case of binning the Linksys and getting a combined modem/router I suppose ... any suggestions? |

Hi TSandPSintheGREEN.
Welcome to The Scream! ![]() Unfortunately, that idea will not work. There is no modem in the BT filtered face plate, its just a connection to the phoneline and the incorporated filter is there to eliminate the need of an external plug in filter. The Linksys WRT54G is a Router only, it needs a separate modem for it to function correctly. You really need a Modem/Router combo as you say. That would work fine and is less messing about with multiple units/wires, etc. As for binning the Linksys, you may want to put it for sale on Ebay/other, to recoup some of the money spent on a new Modem/Router combo, assuming it is working fine and in good condition.
