Payforit, the easy way.

Welcome

Payforit is the new payment service, supported by all licensed UK mobile operators, designed to make it easy to pay for low cost services on the mobile phone.

First announced in March 2006, the Payforit scheme has been developed by the operators to promote a trustworthy and consistent standard for paying by mobile, so that consumers can buy with confidence when they are making one-off payments or setting up subscription services via their phone.
Below is a list of the scheme’s current Accredited Payment Intermediaries who are connected to the respective networks.

Accredited
Payment Intermediary...................................... Accredited on

Virgin Mobile uses the T-Mobile Payment Intermediaries
so in reality just another premium rate rip-off scheme used and operated by dishonest sleazy companies that parents should keep their children as far away from as possible.

Interesting that PhonepayPLus are now suggesting that 7000 prefix codes are "payforit" IDs. These first appeared on this forum here. I pursued this with Virgin and PhonepayPlus at the time - I even had some correspondence with the Ofcom rep on the PhonepayPlus board. I reported some of my (lack of) progress in this thread.

Nobody was able to tell me what 7000 prefix numbers were or why are used in place of actual phone numbers.

Many years on, the scams are still continuing it seems and PP+ are still looking into it.

Default Re: Virgin Mobile T-Mobile: 'trustworthy' PayForit used to rip-off customers

new to this discussion so ill give you my take on it, ive just checked back on my t-mobile bill back to january and have been charged £1.50 by the number 700034797 at least 3 to 5 times in jan-march and 11 times this month!!! The charges started when i signed up for a day's access to 'megaupload' the file hosting service which is currently under investigation from the FBI i do believe. The 'payforit' scheme would seem to be responsible if this is the case, from what i've read above anyway? quick question to those in the know, is it even worth ringing t-mobile or can they literally do nothing? and if thats the case what are my options, changing my number??

Thanks for any feedback
Steve

I just reread what you are saying.

So where ever you entered your number you believe it may have resulted in some kind of premium rate 'subscription'.

First thing to do is contact T-Mobile and insist they give you the identity, contact details of the company they are billing for and the shortcode. Tell them you did not subscribe to this service so they must unsubscribe you from their Payforit end.

Find out who/what it is first....

Firstly it would be very difficult to sign up on a genuine Payforit web page without realising you were agreeing to purchase a premium rate service.

I believe either Megaupload have sold your number to Win plc client (Mobile and Email or whoever).

or

you entered your number into a third party 'affiliate marketer' who had created a web page to somehow trick you (iframe).

This would explain why you don't recall signing up to this. At this point it doesn't really matter.

By the way ICSTIS is the old name of the Regulator PhonepayPlus who you could complain to if you wish but you may loose the will to live before they do anything.

Win plc is one of T-mobile's 'Accredited Payment Intermediary'
http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/s...34&postcount=1

They connect their client to T-mobile and handle the Proceeds of Commerce.

At this point I would contact Customerservices@winplc.com or Payforit (0845 130 9911) and tell them you want your number removed from their list. You can also demand a refund but don't say any thing about entering your number on 'megaupload' or anywhere. Tell them you intend to refer the matter to PhonepayPlus AND your MP if you don't receive the refund.

When you have done all this I would change my number and possibly get shot of T-mobile at the earliest opportunity.

ps you do realise T-mobile pocket 50% of the revenue before passing the rest (minus VAT) on for Win and their client to share.
