As you may know I've just upgraded to Tiscali Broadband and am generally very happy. However, I've got a problem with sending mail using Outlook Express (I can receive mail fine).
Every time I try to send something I get the following message: An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'test', Account: 'pop.tiscali.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.tiscali.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0B Any ideas?

Haven't a clue off the top of my head, However.
How far does it get? i.e. : Resolve Server address Connect to server Usr Pass Recieve Disconnect from mail server. Does it fail for Outgoing & Incomming emails??? ~Mem |

according to http://www.isp-help.co.uk/ErrorCodes/outerror.htm - that code means 'server busy'
![]() I can connect to it fine, in a dos window try trying telnet smtp.tiscali.co.uk 25 (or from linux!) you should see something like Code:
220 mk-smarthost-1.mail.uk.tiscali.com ESMTP Exim 4.10 Fri, 17 Jan 2003 11:09:10 +0000 |

Silver: tried your telnet thing and got:
220 mk-smarthost-2.mail.uk.tiscali.com ESMTP Exim 4.10 Fri, 17 Jan 2003 11:33:13 Picses: had a look at the Tiscali forums - there seem to be a few people having similar problems.

telnet - just proves you can connect to the server
![]() perhaps the server really is busy? you could try connecting to the server with somthing like popcorn and watch the smtp transaction log, might shed some light on it ? ![]() Sil PS, the line you get back when you telnet is the line that gets sent to your normal email client when it tries to send mail, it's tiscali's smtp server saying hello

Weird - 2 of the test emails I sent myself have arrived - however, there's still one stuck in the outbox giving me the same error when I try to send it.
edit: actually, they could be the ones I sent from the online mail at Tiscali.

Just an update.
The problem has now been solved (by Tiscali CS no less). Not quite sure what it was we did that fixed it though.
