There`s so many people having problems dialling up, engaged tones, blocked browsers, fault messages, not recognising user names etc, mostly due to the NTL "upgrades". In desperation I`ve just spent half an hour testing out all the combinations of numbers to establish workable connections.
For anyone new to this forum faced with a browser message telling you to download their dialler..DON`T!!! Its awful, intrusive and resets all your internet settings. Even if you install it then uninstall it, your computer will be left a bit twtchy and glitchy. I`m in Yorkshire, ex directory on a BT line. These are the numbers which work here every time at the moment: 1470128008089909877 1470126308005190600 Just set them up yourself using connection wizard. Leave the area code blank and put the full number in the right hand box. Remove the 1470 if you are not ex directory. IMPORTANT: Plug your modem straight into your BT socket without using the NTL box for internet. Just use it for your voice calls.Use a splitter if necessary. I think some of the problems are caused by using the wrong prefix-eg the new 0808 number doesn`t work for me with the old 1263 prefix, and the older 0800 number doesn`t work with the new 1280 prefix. I urge anyone having problems to set up the above numbers themselves using connection wizard. But before you do anything else, make sure you also set up another reliable alternative connection with a different company, as backup. Something like UKU with a local call rate pay as you go system, and no software to download. That way you can still get online to sort things out if you have further problems. Hope this helps someone as much as this forum has helped me! Last edited by intransigent; 19-November-2003 at 11:44. |
