Thumbs up Kaiser's Spinal Stroke Fundraising, please help

Kaiser is my son & his family's pet and a very much loved family member. He is a 3 year old German Shepherd, who was a very active dog and has such a lovely gentle personality.
On 26th November 2013, Kaiser suffered a spinal after a fall and is now paralysed from the neck down. The vet says he has a fair chance of recovery but needs 24/7 care at home and also physiotherapy and hydrotherapy sessions.
He has to be turned over every hour, day and night, to prevent bed sores, as dogs donít recover from these and will eventually die if they get them, so they must be avoided. He also has to have his legs and feet massaged and moved regularly to keep the blood flow moving properly and help with the muscles.
He is has improved slightly already but still has a long way to go and will have to undergo treatment for months before much more progress is seen.
He is a much loved member of our family and we have to do everything we can to help him get well again. We are trying to raise funds for his treatment, as all the therapy sessions he has to have are expensive and his treatment has cost over £4000 already.
With the best will in the world, we can't raise all the funds we need ourselves. Kaiser is a very much loved part of our family and we would be devastated if the worst happened. We are doing everything we can to raise funds for his treatments. Please can you help us and Kaiser, to give him a chance to get his life back.
Visit our fundraising page http://gogetfunding.com/project/kais...al-stroke-fund to make a donation and please share with your friends too.

Thank you.

Thanks Twinkle, appreciated. He's such a lovely, gentle dog... very big but very gentle and such a character.

The more physio & hydrotherapy sessions he has, the better he gets. Right now he's lost all his muscle and we can feel his bones through his skin but the vet says he's fine as he's eating well.

We had a scare last week as when he was turned over on one of his hourly turns, it was noticed that there was blood coming from his penis and it was very worrying. The vet did tests and decided that he had a water infection, so he's had antibiotics to counteract that. He seems OK again now.

We're so amazed by the amount of people who have offered help by donating towels and sheets, etc. They have also gifted items that we can sell to raise funds and one lady has organised a fundraising day on 19th February with stalls and face painting and other things going on. It's so heart-warming to see the amount of people willing to do something to help. There are obviously many animal lovers out there... thank goodness.

For me this also hits home about the need for pet insurance.

Scamp- my two year old Jack Russell takes me for a daily walk on our local common. It's a great place and most dogs run off the lead and socialise well provided their owners don't interfere too much!

Just before Christmas the wife of a friend had a boisterous retriever type dog run into her leg and cause her to fall over. She needed an ambulance to be taken to casualty as a fracture was suspected. It turned out that it was a fractured knee cap needing stapling, grafts and of course setting in plaster.

It will now be at least another month before she will be able to have the plaster removed!

Quite a serious injury with the added expenses of cancelled holidays, parking and travelling to hospital etc. The dog owner was on her mobile telephone at the time.

My friends insurers are dealing with the retrievers owners to obtain compensation.

In the past we have had several dogs and not covered them with health insurance. As Scamp has holiday stays with our daughter we thought it unfair, in our absence, to leave her worried about veterinary care.

So sorry for my belated reply but I did not appreciate this related to a personally owned dog. Hope the fund raising is successful and there is a good recovery.

Thank you for your reply Worldlife, belated or not it is most welcome.

Kaiser was and is insured but unfortunately, like most insurance companies, they will only pay for certain things.

After a lot of arguing and putting their case forward, my son and his wife, Kaiser's owners, finally managed to get the insurance company to agree to pay the initial vet bills for the consultations and treatments he received.

They will not, however, pay for the subsequent physio & hydrotherapy that Kaiser has to undergo in order to recover to his near normal self again. This is why we are fundraising, as the treatments are not cheap.

Thank you for your good wishes, they are much appreciated.

This is Kaiser moving his leg by himself for the first time since last November when he suffered a spinal stroke. It may seem trivial to some but to us it's a minor miracle!! We're over the moon!! Just shows that all the treatment he's been having is finally working. Soooo pleased!! There's a long way to go but this si so encouraging.
