Question Auto send/receive in Outlook 2003

Here's hoping someone can help me out!

I have a dial-up connection (no b/band available). I use Outlook 2003.

How can I automatically send/receive ONLY WHEN CONNECTED TO THE NET?

I can specify auto send/receive every X minutes, but it attempts to send/receive even when I am not connected.

Any ideas? This sounds too simple, but is really perplexing me

Thanks in advance...

Default simple

tools, options,Mail setup, send and recieve box (click this) then at the bottom remove the tick that says check mail when off line

Have tried this, but it doesn't work. It still tries to check even when no connection is present. Any ideas why?
