Default Noisy line

Hi there,

I live about 4.5km from my exchange and also in a new build area. I seem to be suffering from a noisy line. I think its causing disconnects, low speeds, etc.

I'm currently using an adsl router which worked fine in my last house (3com 3CRWDR100A-72). It's not the most state of the art router I know, so I'm wondering if buying a better quality router would solve any of the noise related issues I'm having.

Any thoughts?

Yes. If you have a noisy line it will interfere with any router/modem, so why not get it sorted by your provider ?

Well it's a BT line so I presume they would have to take care of that.

I thought I would post the log from my router to give everyone a picture of what is happening.

I think it reflects how erratic my connection is. Would this be solved with a better quality modem?

Yes I read your post. But the cost is steep if it's not a problem with BT's line. 100 to be exact. So I want to be sure before incurring any unnecessary cost. Does the info I provided suggest a faulty line?

You really need to check the Signal/noise ratio (SNR) and the line attenuation info from your router to see if you have a line problem.

There's also a possibility that any internal phone wiring may be at fault, so try conecting your router to the BT 'master' socket under the lower half of the faceplate. If the readings are better, then you may need to get the internal stuff sorted first.

If there's no change, then it's probably a bad line, in which case BT are obliged to sort it because it's faulty.
