Default New Picture Uploader/Gallery Script

Although the forums attachement tool is quite good, its still lacking in some areas so we`ve put together a gallery script where registered members can upload pictures for general use or for linking on the forums.

the page is http://www.the-scream.co.uk/gallery/

its generally quite easy to use, but some areas are not that obvious, so some quick instructions.

When you visit the page it should show you as logged in, and there should be a Logout [username] link at the top. If not then you need to login to the Forums and make sure the "remember me" box is ticked.

When you first visit you wont have any albums set up, so the "Upload" link wont work.

To create a new album click the "Create / order my albums" button.
Click the "New" button, then edit the name in the text box, then click "Add Modifications"

To alter the settings for an album, click "My Albums" then click Properties next to the album you want to change, here you can change the description, and restrict who can access the album to either everyone (including unregistered viewers), you only, or registered members only.

This doesnt restrict access to the individual images, just the albums so you can link images in a private album to posts in the forum.

You can now use the Upload file link to upload pictures to your album(s)

The images must be less than 1024KB and no larger than 2048 pixels either tall or wide.

Once it has uploaded each file it will ask for the album to put it in, and you can add a name, keywords and a description.

To link an image to a post on the forums, from the album page, click on the thumbnail of the image you want, then click the button above the full size picture, then scroll down and cut n paste the url next to URL:

Firefox/Mozilla users can just right click the fullsize image and choose Copy Image Location.

Paste the url into your post with img tags around it thusly:
PHP Code:

Is there a limit to how much 1 user can upload? i donít mean a single file i mean overall because when you use the attachment way it shows your overall use of the facility and it makes be really conscious as to how much i upload i must be honest.

Not sure there's a limit (at the moment anyway) if you're concerned abt the attachment limit don't be, if you get close to it then we can increase it

hang on are you talking about the gallery script or the vbulletin attachments ?

the VB attachments limit is 20MB per user, i just plucked that figure out of the air and can be upped if needed.. the only "penalty" is not being able to upload anymore when you hit 100% !

the gallery quota is 50MB, i`ve added some code to show the used diskspace.

Under the Attachements section of the User CP (or on the upload window) theres a bar showing how much of your quota you are using, if you hover the mouse over the bar it shows the quota limit.

Thanks but it is because it showed the amount using and the that there was a limit is why i backed off uploading photos, i thought there might have been a reason for it rather than because it was just part of the system. No i know that i wont hesistate in future to up upload them

no, go ahead

I`ll probably add a user group that has higher limits that you automagically get put in when you`ve posted X posts and been a member for Y days, etc,,

you need to go to http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/p...?do=editavatar to change your avatar anyway, not the gallery :/

Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 64 by 64 pixels or 58.6 KB

Ian's sticky started in 2005 is the first instruction newcomers will read on uploading and posting photos to TS

The link in ian's first post to this thread is not working for me - maybe security issues?

Maybe the sticky needs updating or a new one placed here - I suspect we no longer have a photo upload facility.
