Default Broadband Connectivity Lost but Signal Still Present!

Hi

I'm posting this for a friend who has lost all internet connection!

He has been using orange broadband fine, using the wanadoo livebox with wireless usb adapter. No problems.

Then one day, when he clicks on internet explorer as normal, it comes up with the 'connect or workoffline' box. You click on Connect, and it pulls up the dial-up window for the old dial-up account. Like some settings have been lost/changed.

Anyway, I've changed the settings in IE tools and set to 'never dial' for the old dialup section. Also set the LAN settings to 'automatically detect settings'.

Even tho the system says that there is a connection via wireless, and that the modem lights appear normal, it just won't connect.

I'm pretty sure it's just a confirguration setting somewhere that needs resetting.

Any ideas ?????

Thanks for any help you can offer.

With most wireless routers you get in by typing http://192.168.0.1 into your browser. As someone has already suggested once you are in check the signal isn't encrypted with either WEP or WPA. The user name to get in to most routers by default is usually Admin and the password is password. You can set the router back to default usually by pressing a switch that is located in a hole at the back of the router. You have to push a pen in the hole for about 10 seconds or something like that. You should get a list of menus once in the router. The one at the top in mine is a wizard for checking the server settings. Then other menus help you do diagnostics, set up encryption, etc. You should also get a log that tells you what is going on. I have my router email me my log once a week - and in the case of security problems like port scans - it emails me straight away. Your problem may be the link control protocol - the log will say LCP down if that is the case. Call your ISP and they can make an adjustment to the line to stop that. Also check with the website of the routers makers - to see if there is a newer firmware update.

Power cycle the router; sometimes they lose their minds.
Try connecting over ethernet to make sure it is not a wireless problem.
