Default Lost emails

Received this morning from Tiscali:-

"Dear Tiscali customer,

* Urgent Email Service Notice *

As you may be aware, the Tiscali email system has been unavailable for
some Tiscali users since the afternoon of Friday 1st March. This was
caused by an unprecedented hardware failure.

We are very sorry that this has happened and we understand the
inconvenience and upset caused by Email problems.

Tiscali engineers have worked through the night together with engineers
from our suppliers to resolve the problem.

Email access for affected customers has now been restored and customers
are able to send and receive emails. However, email and address book
details for some users have been lost"

Now that's what I call service. No suggestion of compensation. A few pennies would be nice.

Failed to include the final part of the message:-

* If you use a mail application such as Outlook Express to pick up your
email, you will be able to see all your existing emails and address book
details, but any new emails sent to you since the last time you checked
your messages will have been lost.

* If you access your email via the Tiscali website, your saved emails and
address book information will have been lost.

Tiscali will continue to explore every way possible of retrieving this
lost data and will contact you if we are successful.

Email is a core part of our service and Tiscali are committed to improving
the service. There will be an email upgrade over the next few weeks,
bringing a faster and more reliable service with added functionality.

May we apologise again for the inconvenience caused by this incident. We
would like to assure you we are making changes to ensure that a similar
incident cannot occur again in the future.

Two things about that email.
1. It says it was sent @ 6.53pm on 3 March when in fact it was sent @ 00.58 on 4 March, and
2. It only refers to, and is addressed to, Tiscali users. No mention about Screaming or Worldonline and they too were affected.

Yes Gem, you're right there. I am a Screamer but during this fiasco I signed up for Tiscali Pay as you Go. And yes I received an apology as a Tiscali customer but not as a Screaming.

Yes Pisces, I started as a Screamer, added a WOL and also a Tiscali and I only got the email via Tiscali.

I'm a Screamer using Fastmail to collect my screaming.net e-mail via Tiscali - but I've had no e-mail about this problem.

Best wishes,

Thumbs down

I contacted Customer Care and their reply was:

'the 'Urgent Email Service Notice' is for all the customers of Tiscali which includes Screaming.net and Worldonline customers.'

I've gone back to them to ask why they have not informed Screaming.net and Worldonline customers!

Hi Pisces. That annoys me, they are always forgetting about Screaming and WOL users, their 'base'. Have yet to receive a response or MY email.

Hi Gem,

Yep - it's possible to splice them together, which means they all end up in one thread in time posted order. It could make it hard to follow.

Strictly speaking I guess this thread should be in the freedom24 forum, but it's not obvious since this forum has the word 'tiscali' in the title

We do keep saying we are going to combine them into one forum, but there never seems a good time to do it since it will mess up the thread order (I think) an make stuff hard to find.

Sil

PS, probably easier is to move this whole thread into the freedom24 forum and leave a link in this forum. We can do that if it'd help

Hi Sil
I take your point. Perhaps it might then be better to leave things as they are until the situation resolves and postings cease.

Hey, I started my thread first

Incidentally, there's a story on The Register that says Tiscali are sending their faulty disks to the USA to see if the lost emails can be recovered.
