Default DHCP - Always use same address

On my BeBox router one can for a host check the box for the dhcp server to always issue the same address from the pool (presumably through managing soem internal mapping to the mac address). I guess this means even when that pc is inactive dhcp wonte give the ip to some one else.

My question is, why when you check this box, does it up the lease time to 50days or something. Surely the lease time is infinity or n/a and so nolonger worth presenting in the web interface as a number of hours.

Like this, the interface doesn't quite give full confidence that you understood what you just did.

Default Re: DHCP - Always use same address

I don't know how the router works and have not seen it etc but presume it does keep a mapping of the mac to assigned IP,. perhaps the 50 days relates to how long it keeps the mapping since it last saw that mac,. or it could be just a number to display and has no meaning at all
