Default PC check up

This may be useful for a PC check up. I know there are others but they have a time limit (a month ) and you have to subscribe....

However this for me was excellent. it told me details of the hardware i have which i have not been able to find out such as chip details, modem details, card details. it gives suggestions how to improve the results....

hope you like it:

Just tried it, everything you ever wanted to know about your computer but were afraid to ask.

It's really good and thorough, its now in my favourites.

Thanks gadgett

I decided to be brave and have a go at the pc health check (a minor miracle for me - only to be compared to landing on the moon )

The results say that my computer only has a processor of 130 mhz (94 mhz on the second try when I followed the suggestion of disabling the anti virus) - daren't try it for a third time in case it tells me it doesn't work at all!!!

This is a laptop with 700 mhz Pentium III - any suggestions as to why I got the funny results please.

As you can gather, I am not particularly knowledgeable when it comes to such things so would appreciate a few tips.

Did even try to have a look at the BIOS but how the heck you manage to get into that on this laptop I don't have a clue - tried all the suggested buttons but nothing stops windows loading!

Thanks

Tracey.

I too was a little taken back when it claimed that my internet connection and graphics card were of "unusually low performance".

Strange seeing as how I have ADSL and a Voodoo 5 that tops 60fps with a ping of sub 50ms when gaming online.

Did I trust it? did I heck!

I don't feel so bad now Onslo, glad I'm not the only one getting funny results.

I'm Humbled

Although my properties give zilch details of any of my hardware but the diagnosis was spot on. So it was useful to me.

Hi all

Strange how these things vary for different peoples systems. There was stuff I could get from device manager but more also. I too found it useful.

Suck it and see I guess, no harm in trying.

I thought it was excellent as I built my PC and it spotted right-off that it was as Fast as **** off a shovel and could not suggest anything to improve it!

What more could one ask of such a prog!

You can get much more accurate results, and more baffling technobabble than you can shake a stick at, using something like sisoft sandra : http://www.sisoftware.demon.co.uk/sandra/ A very neat bit of software.

I went to Zed Net and read the reviews of Sandra. Most gave it an average/so so, some outlining its serious side effects.

As Steed says "suck it and see"

To reply to the Warez comment.

If you read all of the information on the site at the given link, It states that the information provided, is for educational and informational purposes only, and should not be used for any other purpose.

The provider specifically states, that if you wish to use the program information, you should purchase the program from the original manufacturer / supplier. He specifically stipulates that it should not be illegally used.

If this information or link offends any one, then I suggest that it be removed.

The subject should end at this point.

It OK John, no harm done

I know FOSI is a bit different, but in effect it still supplies copies of copywrite protected software. We just have to be carefull that's all.

OK 'Slo............

No harm meant, but I obviously ruffled some feathers earlier.

Take it as said that there will be no further such links.
