Smile Pleased The Scream! is not closing

Best news I've had for a while!! The Scream! is not closing!! Gem, thank you for letting us know.

We really do have to make the effort in our busy lives to pop in regularly guys... it's the same as most things... if you don't use it, you'll lose it... so make sure you log in at least once a week.

That's not much to ask but if we all do it, just once a week, it will help keep the forum stay afloat & that's what we would all like isn't it?? I know I certainly do!!

Thanks for your decision to keep it up & running guys, it's appreciated.

It's RTI you should thank as he will be doing the 'behind the scenes' work. It will still be the usual TS!TEAM working alongside though.

The REAL work will be down to members posting sensibly and Nothing Libelous etc.

I hope there isn't too much "behind the scenes" work to do - although I have just nobbled a spammer!

What can I post to disagree with the sentiment of this thread?

What could I write to stimulate input from 8000 or so sleeping members?

Start with a firework display and if that does not work a rocket up the backside?

This has been and still is, a wonderful forum. The fact that many have moved on... as will always happen with any forum... or that at this present time members are busy getting ready for the biggest holiday of the year, does not detract from the fact that this is a good forum with lots of loyal members who still want to keep it going. Sometimes life just gets in the way a little.

The quality of the forum does not rely on the amount of members visiting... the longevity of it may but the quality of service is there anyway, regardless of attendance.

Oh I do agree with the sentiment of the thread!

This meant I could not post anything that did not agree.

Sometimes friendly disagreement stimulates posts.

It is really great we have a breathing space to see if it is possible to restore the number and quality of the threads and posts of a few years ago.

(Hmm I do remember a period when some members were keeping an eye on the number of posts they were making. At each 100 posts there were plenty of congratulations from those who wanted to add to their "score". Even I was encouraged to adopt brevity and enter one liner discussions - I might post a thread on this)

"Happy Birthday" threads, often based on data provided automatically, should not form a major proportion of the total postings - and they are doing so at the moment.

How many active and regular posters should we have to sustain a forum of this size?

I agree that 'The Scream' provides quality advice but if we do not have queries, posts and visits then the advisors will be not be utilised to best advantage

There are many friendly members who have knowledge on many thing and if others would just log in more often and chat with each other, they would find common ground and have lots to discuss.

The Christmas Comp used to bring hoards of people out of the woodwork... pity we can't have things like that again odd times throughout the year, most people like a good comp... keeps the little grey cells working.

One of my favourite meals as a child - and could well have a plateful over Xmas now you've rekindled the memory - is a plateful of creamy mash potato with plenty of corned beef diced up and mixed in - and (and I kid you not on quantity) - about half a decent sized jar of Branston pickle - all mixed in.

It's been impossible for me to recreate the superb school lunch menu with liver. Overdone and crispy it was something very special if you did not use the pepper pot with the unscrewed top

I too am pleased this place is still standing.

For the newer members - yes, that is you if it was within the last 10-12 years - most of my posts were made on the ezBoard prior to this and I never quite did make it to the vB version. This place has many memories for me and that is the reason I dropped in today. I had no intentions of posting, just doing a bit of reminiscing. I was shocked when the Google result I saw said this place was closing!

I never received any email. If I had, I would have been straight on to Sil and offering to host and look after the place. It would have been an honor to do so! Believe me though, I would have been asking for the ezBoard database too and would have merged the two. I would love to have these old posts back!

I am very much a forum person. I don't do Twitter & FaceBook and I never will! My trouble is that I have too many and there are only so many hours in the day. It does take a shade longer when one has to log into them separately and that was one of the beauties of ezBoard: the global login. Sure, we have unified logins these days but they tend to belong to the data miners that I refuse to have anything to do with.

I cannot promise but I will try to come and pop in a few posts here and there.

If ever this forum is at risk, someone - everyone - please get in touch with me.

We would love to see you popping back in from time to time & posting... no sense in popping in without posting really, after all, that's what this forum is all about and that's what keeps it going.

Pleased to have you on board again.

I sometimes made it with a pie crust too... corned beef hash, can't beat it!!

The school meals we had were nothing to write home about and certainly could not be described as 'something very special'

We only got one choice... take it or leave it and everything was cooked to death!! No fancy meals like chicken chasseur (as my daughter had at her school), all we got was mash, meat & veg, usually peas or carrots. Salad in the Summer with lettuce that hadn't been washed properly, so you'd find creepy crawlies in the curled up leaves!! Pudding weren't any better... rice pudding with jam in the middle (I hate jam in my rice pudding!!), prunes and custard... yeukk!! Semolina, tapioca (frog spawn... one of my favourites than & now!). In the 1950's / 1960's school meals left an awful lot to be desired!!

It always used to confuse them greatly when I went into McDonalds and a asked for fries without salt on. As they drenched all the fries in salt as soon as they were cooked I usually had to wait for the next batch to come out so they could give me some of them before the salt was put on. You're right, they did add an inordinately massive amount... which probably explains why Americans have a high rate of health problems contributed to the intake of excess salt!!
