I see nothing - possibly someone else has removed whatever it was.

It would be helpful if the original poster provided a description of the content of the link (now no longer working) and his views on the age group it would offend.

If things are dealt without transparency it could seem that TS is imposing censorship and that censorship could be as the result of pressure by one individual and not the community as a whole.

If the Team Member was wrong then that Team Member should have provided an apology for his mistake and remind us all that certain links are not appropriate.

The link was posted on the Site Info page, which is not accessible by standard TS members.

It was either put there inadvertently by a member with the required authority, or the site was hacked in some way.

I posted to make the moderators aware of it,and see it has now been removed, by whom I wonder.

It was explicit pornography, certainly for over 18,and not expected on a family forum.

I certainly don't see myself as a censor, I was only bringing it to the attention of the peeps who run TS

My Grandchildren use this site & no way should they have seen this, glad it was subsequently removed.

Maybe a Team member can explain !

Thanks Jacktar - this now seems a little confusing and so I have inserted my comments in italic red inside a quote of your post.

The link was posted on the Site Info page, which is not accessible by standard TS members.

Is jacktar a non-standard member and myself a standard member? Although I see the Site Info page I do not see an area from which I am excluded

If this page is not accessible by standard TS members how could it be directly accessible to visiting children? Surely moderators should if they wish have the facility to discuss privately what and what not they consider to be pornographic and what if any action they propose is taken against the poster.

It was either put there inadvertently by a member with the required authority, or the site was hacked in some way.

A website that professes to have expertise on computer security would be a street cred task for the hacker! If the site was hacked that might indicate we need better security. Those responsible for running TS and with the authority to post in a restricted area should ensure that dealings with TS and its members are separated from other day to day activities that might have been subject to Trojans etc

I posted to make the moderators aware of it,and see it has now been removed, by whom I wonder.

It was explicit pornography, certainly for over 18,and not expected on a family forum.

Those over the age of 18 are legally regarded as adults. Whilst I accept there might be younger viewers for technical pages I am not sure that all members would want General Chatty made suitable for ten year olds to read

I certainly don't see myself as a censor, I was only bringing it to the attention of the peeps who run TS

Not aimed at you particularly but at the principle that a minority (e.g Mary Whitehouse from the past) might have undue influence on the media because they are trying to impose the standards of a bygone age.

My Grandchildren use this site & no way should they have seen this, glad it was subsequently removed.

Some would regard the image of a topless woman as pornographic! Would members feel that the standards at TS should be more stringent than that of a tabloid newspaper that will be read and seen by children in the home environment?

Maybe a Team member can explain !

I feel there should be an explanation

I will try and explain a little better....... The site info page is NOT a place where ANY Screamers can post....not you.....not me.......It is for admin to place information, news, etc. You/Me/any Screamer are not excluded from any area....you simply can't post anything on this page.....whether it be in the view, edit, or track tabs

The link I posted was to this page. " Site Info " which at the time I accessed it contained a link which I clicked on and did not like the content.

I am not a prude by any means, and all I will say is............... nooooooooooo it wasn't a topless page 2 type site it was MUCH worse than that.

I agree that there SHOULD be an explanation ........ How was this link available .... and WHO removed it ?

I must say I am disappointed that no moderator has applied any input here or
even PM'd me an answer.

Anyway I have more things to think about than this, JT

thanks for reporting it JT - the site appears to have security issues,. the link is removed for now (worldlife - it was a link to gay porn - which I'm reasonably sure was not intended to be on TS! internal pages)

I hope that continues & the site team get things sorted and keeps our Scream safe.

Thanks Silv.

Guess in some ways this was a merciful hacker with his or her satisfaction arising from the penetration of the security of TS.

The link could have taken members to a child porn site and, particularly if a business computer was being used, a record made of the visit on an employers system. I don't know if the police too might be logging such visits or only become aware of those registering or paying for membership of such groups.

Those with more evil intentions could have inserted a link to take members to a website designed to extract money from them.

Whatever business or social networks you belong, I wonder if we all agree, it is extremely important to research the authenticity of links and not trust any organisation or individual as being able to provide genuine links free from risk of contamination.

Was the offensive link put on as the only entry on this now blank page http://www.the-scream.co.uk/html/about/team.html

Maybe the parts of TS that are not being used should have an editorial notice on them "Under Review" or something similar? Is an empty space to a hacker like a clean wall to a graffiti artist?

Do we know how long the offensive link was in place until reported by JT? It seems a daunting task to maintain and moderate TS for the benefit of a relatively small number of participants. Are there check lists amongst the team to ensure various parts of TS are read regularly?

Finally do we perhaps have an aggrieved person no longer with TS who might have done this. Presumably access passwords for The Team are regularly changed and that could not happened. Guess such an aggrieved person would have the skills not to leave fingerprints!!

Do you have it licked now? I didn't mention it but some time before Christmas there were random extra pages added to the static content linked by the "shortcuts" section you find on the front page. All of these pages appear(ed) to be editable by anyone in a very open wiki style, as I was able to delete them and I have no authority whatsoever.

Welcome to TS Peert79.
Bringing this up again serves to remind us all that ,although this forum is in hibernation in comparison with previous years, we must remain alert to security risks.
As I said earlier on it would give street cred to a hacker to hack a site giving security advice to others
Sadly I don't have the expertise to join the defence team!
