Default No access to Email on dial up or broadband ISP's

I'm getting the following error messages from attempts on both Virgin Net dial up and Pipex broadband.

Protocol Pop3, Port 110, Secure (SSL) No socket error 10061. Error no 0 x 800CCOE

An IP address with a 127. header was given and I wondered if this was to do with Popfile. Switched Popfile off but problem not resolved.

Earlier this afternoon I cleared temporary internet files and ran a virus check from EZ virus using latest tables - otherwise can't think of any reason for destabilisation.

Maybe if I just contemplate and return in a few hours the problem will have been sorted out. "Don't Panic".

In fact as the computer has been running all day I will switch it off and start again and see what happens. HIgh tech stuff eh!!!

Well closing down and then starting up again has sorted out the problem.

Would add......

The computer froze on closing down
Scandisk therefore ran on restart

I had run the anti-virus check earlier because the main hard disk seemed to be working hard for a short time - as if it was doing a virus check or defrag

Thumbs up

Sounds as if Windoze got screwed up - I think I recall you saying that you were running an older version (i.e. not XP) and I used to get that. Glad it's all OK now.
I should add that with older versions IF something goes wrong then always try a re-boot first, it's amazing what it (seems to) cures!

Thanks Gem.... you are right - it was W98SE on the machine concerned. It's generally quite reliable and adequate for what I do day in and day out !

The first glitch for months.
