If your thinking of changing Broadband providers, if your provider doesnt support migration, this could take a long time, i cancelled my AOL account on the 3/2/04, they disconnected me from there server on that date, i was disconnected from the BT broadband to AOL server on the 27/2/04, now i am waiting for BT to update there database, this could take upto 6 weeks, this all needs to happen before i can move to another provider, so i could be looking at 2.5 months with out BB i think this is a total p??? take, if both providers support migration, it would be just a case of change over, which would take about 10 minute, so there is a moral to this story,

Glad I'm happy with aol and not thinking of changing BB providers. I do understand what you are saying though, must be very annoying for you to say the least..

I'm not saying AOL are crap, the problems i had were there software kept freezing my machine, login is a bit long winded, i like to click and go, and friends would send me emails and i wouldnt receive them, i have a friend still on AOL and i send him emails though lycos, and they dont receive them either, they seem to take over your computer and the way you use the net. other than that there very good, if they had a click and go, and no software i would of stayed with them.

Mark_so45,
AOL does have a good marketing machine behind it and god knows how many resources. I have to agree with you that their software and user interface is very restrictive - but why do you think that is?? I'm also in contact with someone who hosts mail on the internet and he has had lots of problems getting mail through to AOL. To cut a long story short, they blacklisted his server as it was considered an open relay (potential spam gateway). When contacting their support people they replied to the effect that we'll take care of it in our own time!! But here's the best bit - his server got blacklisted because one of his clients sent a genuine email with 3 AOL user addresses in it!! I know that AOL are trying to prevent spam getting through to it's users, but I think this is taking it a little bit too far and lets face it, the amount of spam that the rest of the world gets from AOL users is unprecedented!!
