It appears that Orange have quietly stopped allowing new connections to the OVP Virgin tariff. As well as Orange having their own tariffs,
Orange Value Promise (OVP) provides the equivalent of another network's tariff (excludes pay as you go), and as Virgin can be post-paid, this counted, or it did until they removed it. Now, OVP only includes O2, T-Mobile, and Vodafone tariffs.
I think that the popularity of this tariff meant that Orange weren't making enough £££s (for their liking anyway), and last year they started charging for freephone numbers on OVP Virgin. According to
this page on Mobile News, they have more subscribers on OVP Virgin than Virgin Mobile have themselves!
Not only that, they decided to drop their Everyphone service for everyone, stating it was because "we feel that we can no longer guarantee the consistently high level of service that we require and you expect from Orange." Yeah, right.
I'm on this tariff and would like to stay on it and hope that I will be able to buy a new phone without Orange getting funny about it.
