Hi Everyone
I have been having great problems with my Netgear DG814 ADSL router with my Virgin Net broadband service for several months , and have finally solved the problem. I thought I would post how I managed to fix the poor performance of this router as Virgin do not support any routers. I was getting download speeds of approx 100kbps (if I was lucky) on a network running Win2k. Virgin confirmed that they were having no network problems and I even proved this by borrowing a friend's ADSL USB modem and recorded download speeds of 490kbps!! So it had to be the ADSL router. Checking out this forum and other net sources I discovered that this Netgear router has had lots of problems , all of which have supposidley been solved with firmware upgrades. I finally got a hold of a Netgear tech and was told to role back my firmware releases to ver 4.6 (the current firmware ver is 4.10). The Netgear tech says that there is something 'different' about Virgin, which on later firmware updates, does not allow full download speed on Virgin . I roled back the firmware and viola, I am back up to speeds of 480 kbps!! So if any of you are on Virgin with this Netgear ADSL router, role back the firmware to 4.6 Bye for now!!! |
