Default Citizen of Rome wanted now

Just finished reading "Pompeii" by Robert Harris - we are planning a visit to Naples and "Pompeii" later in the year (thanks to Tesco discount holiday vouchers)

Absolutely fascinated by the system of aqueducts serving the Bay of Naples and the essential part water had in the Roman way of life, particular the importance of public baths.

"How can we withold our respect from a water system that, in the first century AD, supplied the city of Rome with substantially more water than was supplied in 1985 to New York City?" from Roman Aqueducts and Water Supply by A. Trevor Hodge
Perhaps Apps could act as consultant to Southern Water Authority and come up with a scheme to improve supplies in this area

A few years ago I stayed in a spa resort in Pozzuoli, a city at the edge of Naples. Fairly basic cabins/lodges, but it was excellent using the varied thermal spas in the evenings, the restaurant was superb too, packed with locals every night, brilliant food. Although I did get the impression that the disco in the complex was a bit of a camorra hangout (civilized/fairly senior mafia suit-types), but that's just a local thing and they didn't seem bothered by us mixing with them. At least the girlfriends they brought with them brightened up the evenings.

Was reading Pisces thread on plumbing problems......

Remembered that one of our Roman citizens was very, very poorly with serious plumbing difficulties and having had a sequence of major operations.

Dear Apps - thinking of you wherever you may be and whether you have found the happy matching handbag and tights

I feel sure in real life you were adored by your Latin pupils as at our boys school we respected the most eccentric of Masters

Just getting used to my Christmas stilletos *** hugs ***
