Default Good News with my new Broadband ISP, Bad News from my old modem

My previous posts in this forum were asking about which Broadband ISP to go with and I was lost in a minefield. I finally decided to go with Pipex and it is an absolutely storming ISP. I have had one first time connection refused in 2 months and this connected a few seconds afterwards. The speed is always good and I am 100% happy with them. I would strongly recommend that anyone wishing to get Broadband should sign up with Pipex. Thank God I managed to cancel with Wannadon't in time.

The bad news im afraid folks is that the main reason I decided to get broadband was due to the hot-kiss dialer. Well I've just received my phone bill and there are £23 of unexplained premium rate calls which is due this ******* of a scam. My PC used to freeze and by the time i could do anything, my modem was connected to this number for a few seconds. Also, there were instances of my leaving my PC unattended for a short time which might've dialled in when i wasn't there. So I have no choice but to pay the extra calls. I don't suppose there is anyway I can complain about this? If ever I catch the little **** that wrote this program Im gonna drop-kick him and get medievil on his ass

I've got Norton antivirus installed and Norton Firewall (the XP firewall is disabled since I get better results with Edonkey/Overnet). Now I do tend to leave my PC unattended for a few hours whilst connected to Pipex. Is there anything I should be worried about regarding ****** programs doing serious damage (both financial and electronically) to my PC? Just this second Norton Firewall detected Isass.exe and i nearly enabled permit but thankfully i blocked it fully.

Now you have broadband the dailers dont work... Unless you still have the 56k modem installed and pluged in, if you do just leave the modem unpluged (handy backup or if you need to send a fax)

Make sure you run spybot and adware and keep them uptodate.

might be worth running hijackthis and using the online scanner to give you a guide to if alls ok

Thanks Scoobs, yeah I still have my modem in the situation where my ISP goes down, I still have a backup. It isn't plugged in though, just installed. I was pretty sure that I would be safe from diallers but since it is ADSL and not cable, i wanted to make sure that there are no ways I can get stung again! It never ceases to amaze me what kind of crap people come up with.

Meek,

I was also stung £65 by this scam. Even though I am now on bb and my dialup unplugged I have had premium rate calls barred from my phone at the exchange by BT.

Dont want that again!!
