Default Msn connection problems

Hey,
Im on AOL 9.0 through a thompson 105 router with AOL gold, shared between 3 pcs.
We're all having problems connecting to Internet explorer and MSN 6.2...
We've phoned aol and they didnt know what the problem was, we've gone to msn help and they cant help either.
Msn comes up with the error:

We were unable to sign you into .NET messenger service, possibly because of a problem with the service of with your internet connection. Please make sure that you are connected to the internet. 0x81000301.

AOL works fine, the broadband speed works perfectly and i can access any site using AOL browser. But internet explorer just wont find any site.
I went to msn - tools - connection "i use a proxy server"...im not actually sure if i do, but i thought if i could find the information that it asks for it would find a way to sign on....I figured that it still wants to connect through the 56k dial up i had previously and needs to be re directed using that method, but i can't find the details it requires:

Type:

Server: Port:

User ID: Password:

Realm:

and AOL our ISP, dosn't know either.

Im at a loss as what to do, and i know that other people have had this problem, any help would be apreciated.

Thanks.

Get Rid of the proxy server. I assume you have a BT Voyager 105 modem. You will need to change the MTU to 1400.

AOL cannot and will not help you with a third party program problem.

Yeh....i'v been told to do that before, although i'm not quite sure how to.
Theres nothing in the manuals wich directs you on how to change it, and nothing on the router itself...
