I was just talking to BT and from what the technician said, I should be able to cancel my existing phone account and have it setup again in my husband's name all in the same day (by paying for 7 days of line rental). He said the broadband is provisioned by the number so that once that's done Tiscali would be off my line and I could have a new provider in as quickly as a new one could get the line set-up 7-10 days. Anyone actually done something like this? Will it work. I am beyond fed-up with Tiscali. They've started capping my downloads and my p2p downloads have gone from healthy to max 4kb/s on a 2mb connection. tech support were rude and incompetent and of course refused to admit they were capping the line suddenly. ********.

i did something similar yesterday, though my situation is a little different so do this at your own risk, after getting to the end of my teather with tiscali and then going far beyond it I have now been waiting 19 days since cancelling with them for a cease order to be sent through to BT.
They swear blind that they have sent it but BT have no record and I'm so fed up with having to argue with the cancellations line operators for 20 minutes to make them understand my situation and then to get them to do something about it. Their system seems to be screwed up in my case and they keep checking the wrong number so I can only assume that if they have indeed sent something to BT, it will be for the wrong number. As I can't speak to the mysterious department in Milton Keynes who actually sends the requests to BT I can't find out what's going on. The advice from the operators on the cancellations line is to wait another 10 to 15 days (yeah right). So last night BT gave me a drastic solution whereby I could take things into my own hands. Since I had already cancelled with Tiscali and don't owe them any money - as confirmed several times by the billing department, I had my BT line stopped and restarted myself on the same line as a new customer. It meant my D/D with BT had to be set up again and I would lose my Friends and Family numbers by hey if it means I get rid of tiscali I really don't care! So last night they did it - I experienced no problems with the service, the line still works perfectly well and the stopping of the line and restarting without BB means that BT wholesale will be forced to take the BB signal off the line without any requests from Tiscali!!! Indeed, Tiscali probably wont even notice :o) At last a company who value their customers and will do everything in their power and more to help people - WELL DONE BT!!! |

thanks for the advice on cancelling the bt line to get rid of tiscali.
i did this today - got a new number, cancelled the old one - and i come home to STILL BEING CONNECTED TO TISCALI!! how is this possible? i thought it attached to the phone number, which ive now had cut off is it in fact the physical line the broadband marker attaches to? any further advice would be appreciated one thing that did happen, and i now regret, is that i was asked whether i wanted broadband on the NEW number - i said yes. should i have said no? even so, i still dont understand how tiscali has managed to survive my old line being cut off, and then being reconnected on a new number |

everyone please ignore the above - i'm not convinced it actually works.
a much better solution is to call *********** - she is the only person at Tiscali who can actually help. Last edited by Scoobs; 29-June-2005 at 13:35. Reason: Name and number removed @ Tiscalis request |

this method does not work - i just had a chat with a helpful person at BT about it - the marker attaches to the physical line to your address - so it doesnt matter what your phone number is or if you have that number cut off - the marker stays
guess i have to get rid of tiscali by the normal route - great! lets hope Caroline can help! |

*****UPDATE********
having said this method does not work - and i said that whilst i was in the midst of cancelling, having been told that it did not work by BT wholesale....after i had already started it. im glad i kept going. I think it DOES work, although quite physically how it works i do not know. I will explain what happened anyway. I rang up BT and cancelled my existing phone line. I then had a new line with a new number set up one minute later. This new line had broadband access enabled (BT ask you whether you want this, say yes) What i thought would happen was that Tiscali had their marker attached to my old number so i would not be able to connect to tiscali at all (which would have been fine cos then i could get a new isp immediately). However, what actually happened was that tiscali remained connected - despite my old line being cut off. I therefore assumed that the marker attached to the physical phone line to the house, which can be the only explanation since i had a new phone number that tiscali didnt even know about, yet i was still connected. Before i was disconnected from Tiscali on 6th June (I rang up to cancel on 6th May - theres a month cancellation period), I had already requested pipex on my new phone number. On 4th June, so this is whilst i am still connected to tiscali - i get confirmation from pipex that all checks have been completed and i can get pipex from 8 June. How was this possible I thought - what about tiscali's broadband marker? Anyway, tiscali cancelled on 6th June and on 7th June i had a go at connecting to Pipex IT WORKED! is this a record? I was only offline for ONE DAY. so the message is people: cancel tiscali - wait until the 30 days are nearly up, then cancel your phone line and get a new number - tiscali will still be on the line until the date that they say you are cancelled, but you are free to sign up with a new isp which will not be blocked by a tiscali marker. This means you will only be offline for a matter of days if you time it all right - and not the 40 odd days which are talked about on other threads. The whole tiscali informing BT to remove the marker seems to be bypassed by this method, there was no way that tiscali could have actioned that in my case in one day, and as i said before, pipex said everything checked out even when i was still USING tiscali the only cost is you have to pay a weeks extra BT line rental at 7.95 for cancelling. Im sure you will agree thats no problem! anyway - im over the wall now and happily getting a genuine 1 mbit connection with pipex, genuinely unlimited access. Its all good. anyone wanna follow me over the wall? |

Isn't it amazing that Tiscali have asked to have the name and number of the one person who can actually help in their organisation removed from my post

if you really wanna **** tiscali off, heres how to do it!! (for p2p users)
once you have been placed into the "heavy users category" you now have the option to migrate to another user using your M.A.C code, regardless of contract. i know, i know, thats if you can ever get the code from them, these are the 2 most successful ways to get it. No.1...use BT's pre-written letter of cancellation, which is available on their site, if you're moving to them that is, and they will retrieve the code for themselves. No.2...telephone tiscali and demand your code direct from the cancellation department, they will probably try to fob you off with some crap about it takes time to get it and that you'll have to wait a week or more but if you demand them to TEXT it to your mobile, thats right i said TEXT it, it will be with you within 24 hours or less. they dont want us to know they can do it so they dont tell us, in fact, within 5 minutes of asking for it, it is on the screen in front of them. there you go tiscali....how do you like them eggs!!!!! good luck everyone and i hope tiscuntali goes broke!!!! |
