Ok lets see if they can see each other.
Open a DOS Box (remember this) : Start : Run Type "cmd" (short for command.com) and click OK type "ipconfig /all" This will list all the network adapters and their assosiated details. type "ipconfig /all>>c:\network.txt" to output prevous data to a text file called network.txt in the root of your 'C' Drive. Open using notepad (on the accessories menu in the Programes Menu) Do this on Both. Record The IP address (make sure you are reading the right connection (wireless / Local Area Network/Connection) IPaddress should be something like : 192.168.1.2 172.16.1.2 10.0.1.2 On computer 'A' in the DOS box type "Ping 192.168.1.2" (Replace 192.168.1.2 with computer B's IP) On Computer 'B' repeat with computer A's IP "ping 192.168.1.1" (replace 192.168.1.1 with A's IP) Record The result. Do you get a ping reply from A-B Or B-A? Do they 'Time Out'? If successful try typing "\\192.168.1.2" Into Internet explorer on Computer A (replace IP with B's) try \\computer A's IP on computer B Do they come up with error messages? If No, Right click a folder on computer A and click sharing. Add a share with name. Refresh computer B's view of "\\{A's IP}", does the folder now appear? That'll do for now :) Notes : Typing "exit" will close a DOS box. If pasting output of IPConfig etc into a post. Click the Disable smilies tick box. |

good start
![]() Pc can see laptop. Laptop cant see PC. check you have no firewall software running on the PC. This would stop the laptop from seeing it. Windows Built in firewall : Start : Control Panel : Network Connections Select the right network connection, right click, properties. Click Advanced Tab. Click Settings, Change to Off. Share a folder on the laptop. go to PC and open internet explorer. Type \\192.168.25.1 (or what ever the laptop ip is) into the address bar. Can the PC see shared folders on the laptop? Rinse & Repeat for laptop seeing PC shares. |

actually ignore what i said before.
B-A is working. A was telling me its ip was 192.168.1.100, but pinging it from B only works if i use 192.168.1.1 But i cant seem to do the rest. Thanks Last edited by TiNiB; 23-May-2005 at 20:30. |

You need to find out what ports are being used.
open that dos box and type 'netstat -an' once connected / copying (best time) files over the network. |

I don't know ZA - but there's a setting there somewhere (I've briefly seen it) that says something like 'trust local network' - which will allow things like file+print sharing to work
