Stupid File

[Brechenme]

I have a file i can't delete.

A chick was over and she was like run this song blah blah and like Winamp crashed my system. Well when ti rebooted basically winamp was screwed so i uninstalled it but now i can't get rid of the rest of the files it left. I went into Safe mode and tried to delete it with no luck. I renamed it, moved it but nothing.

Any ideas on how to delete the undeletable file. I think the error message says something like file "ml" (which is Winamp>PLug ins>ML) is not empty.

Well i am ****ed because it slows my computer down a little bit now but maybe you guys have the megical answer i am looking for.

May I ask what OS are you running?

Going by the message,is it possible that the file is actually a directory? If it is then you need to delete the files inside the directory first.

Windows XP Pro,

before it would lag when i tried getting into the files but when i was in safe mode i changed something and the files letters became blue. When i tried opening the file right now instead of lagging it let me go all the way into the directory and delete everything. So i guess problem solved. Hopefully my computer runs fast agian because i don't know what happened there.

Well i dunno

Now it is doing it to the whole program of system mechanic 5. After it lags it says My hard Drive isn't formatted. Then ask if i want to do it.

I dunno this is wierd because this started happening out of no where. First Winamp then it did it to AOL (it would load AIM but when i went to IM it would just say an error occured) now System mechanic.

I duno any ideas?

Have you done the usual AV/Adware scans ?

umm i used Spybot and it didn't come up with anything i guess i will run my antivirus.

I don't knowwhat i could of got a virus from though.

Yah i ran my Antivirus and nothing. So my system is clean, but it is wierd that it is doing this.

well i uninstalled my newest install.... battlefield 2. Well that made my system speed go up all around i still have the problem System mechanic 5 not wanting to open that folder and after a little wait it says Format Disk Drive D.

Earlier when i defragged my Main hard drive two files couldn't be defragged either. They were like restore (sjdlakj_asda_skdkalsjd_ etc) but i don't kno if that is a hint or something?


I am about to run Defrag agian and see if that comes up agian so i can show the exact folders.

Well I dont see anything in either of those logs that would be malicious.

Have you tried a system Restore or maybe re-install/repair of the affected programs.

It may be that the Crash has trashed some files, relating to those programs if they were running at the time.

hmm when the crashed happened.......

I am pretty sure i was at the end of installing Battlefield 2(it was at some point where it wanted me to set up a microphone) i had Firefox going, mmmm i had winamp going and i had BitComet going.

The thing that initial got screwed Winamp, Battlefield was also screwed, Firefox was fine.

i got rid of the tro problems. System mechanic wasn't running but it got screwed out of no where and recently (i ran it after my crash a few times and it worked).

I guess i will try repairing the install.


Well it seems it will not let me uninstall because it cannot find it, and i cannot reinstall it because it cannot add files to the F#$@ed File. So i got to find a way to get rid of the files.

Well I took it that Winamp caused the crash not BF2, according to your first post, so BF2 is another crash then ? That is quite a big game to install with other programs running, it may have been better to shutdown all programs then install it

Doesnt System Mechanic run in the background, I have never used it myself.

lol um system mechanic doesn't run unless you start it. Winamp did cause the problem not BF2 but BF2 was done installing when the crashed happened it was just doing some final setting up of the microphone.

System mechanic when i go to uninstall it in Control Panel says it doesn't exist. Then when i go to install it and install over the orignal directory it says it cannot do that because i dunno.

So then i went to system restore and it cannot restore my system to any of the points it has saved. Now i am just like what the hell is going on here.

because after i deleted the Winamp files that were cuasing my system to slow down my system ran really good like it use to for a day. When i came back the next day my system was sluggish agian and thats when i did the Virus and Spyware search to come up with nothing. but i did find out my Aol AIM was screwed up for some reason or another. So i got rid of AIM and my computer was still slow so i dumped BF2 which improved the speed but then System mechanic was screwed up. It is wierd.

i think a reinstall will do your system good
then install things one at a time
then if one thing c*o*c*k*s it up then you know what it is

From all the hassle these programs are causing, jackassuk56's suggestion may be your easiest solution.

Its sounds like to me, many programs have been affected and tracing all the relevant Files and Registry entries associated with those programs, may take forever to rectify the problem.

Usually when a program refuses to re-install, there is a Registry entry preventing it, because that entry is telling the system it is already installed, when in fact it isnt. Even though all the Programs files may have been deleted/removed from the system, manually or otherwise.

An Uninstallable Program entry in Add/Remove Programs, is usually due to a missing Uninstall file on the system.

If the actual Program entry is missing from Add/Remove Programs, then it is a missing Uninstall entry in the Registry.

well i should start a new post but i will put it here

I reinstalled Windows XP w/SP2

and after i rebooted one time i got the error
Winlogon.exe - Unable to locate component"

It says something to the effect of "Application failed to start because SHLWAPI.DLL was not found." Then, it tells me to "reinstall the application”


Well i kind of figured i need to use the Repair in Windows XP because i can't do anything else, So how do i go about using repair mode to put a new file in to replace this one so it boots. I just need a step by step process because i am not very good in Repair mode on Windows XP Setup Disk.

Well neermind about the repair thing i just go to the second repair in Windows Setup. The thing is i went there and it went and deleted the files and when it tried putting the new installation files in the same file that caused problems came up as not being able to be copied. So i completely deleted the partition and tried installing and after it copies all the setup files it reboots and gets stuck on the Windows XP loading screen, i have retried twice. So i went to Repair Screen and went to Check Disk and it said there were errors. Now when there are errors in check disk is it the hard Drive screwing up or the files on it??

Yah so how do i get it so it will install windows??

my main hard drive is bad. It keeps getting bad sectors which so far cannot be fixed and whatever program goes into the bad sector ends up getting screwed up. So i am getting my hard drive warranted.
