Don't understand what you have achieved as only Mobile broadband is without a landline - both cable and BT are landlines! Cable and virgin media 'do not' require a BT landline!! without a bt landline these are the only alternative apart from some mobile phone networks... |

Cable and virgin media 'do not' require a BT landline!! without a bt landline these are the only alternative apart from some mobile phone networks... Cable still requires a landline of sorts. Ok, it's not a BT phone line but it's still a fixed connection, with wires running through the house, engineers coming to set it up, etc. For me, this is exactly the same inconvenience as a BT landline, as I'm not allowed to have anything like that installed where I live. That's why I joined this forum just a few minutes ago; I'm searching internet options for heavy users that do not require any type of line whatsoever!

Only other option is mobile broadband. Either a dongle or a small wireless router.
But these have limited speed. My 3 dongle gives about 2Mbs down and 300kbs up at my home location. Also you are usually limited to 1,3,5,10 or 15GB usage a month. So it depends on what you mean by heavy users. Latency is often higher with typical pinig times of 200ms. |

Hi Austin,
I know, the download limits are well stingy! I'm leaning towards Orange's "early bird" mobile broadband, where I'd get a 12 month contract, a free dongle and 10 GB usage a month, plus (aparently genuine) unlimited downloads between midnight and 9am. I reckon I could live with that if I schedule my downloads. I'm with orange anyway as a mobile phone customer, and they seem quite good with customer loyalty discounts once your contract 's finished too. I'm used to a 2mb connection from before, so that's alright. I'm looking for customers opinions about it now.

A lot depends on your location.
I have vodafone and 3 and have used 02 3 and 02 work great from my home but vodafone can be slow. vodafone and 02 work great in my office and 3 is slow. I use mine for email while out and about and as a backup when my dsl fails/ so the limits are not an issue. /a |

Guys I am in the same situation..... although BT have given me the next two months free internet and phone :P
I have mack code and wont wait that long before i change to the best option i have available.. That is LLU My choice is BE.. Very fast internet no BT control and I control my own phone costs with SIP (many to choose from). This is the best I can do in my new quest to bring as many people out from BT.s nasty Domain, so far (hopefully soon BE will do full unbundling to include the pstn) choose your own LLU to get your maximum service and satisfaction that you have done as much as possible to take control from BT Battleon

In the US there is a thing kick-off right now called Spectrum. Spectrum is the ability for broadcasting companies to broadcast BB to the masses with waves NOT wires, its really cool and saves seriously on telephone line clutter. I am waiting to see if we can get some of that stuff. I like sooo many hate BT and would like an alternative solution. I hope this thread is still running and there is a response Cheers Robert @@@@@ |
