The online Hijack This scanner (http://www.hijackthis.de/index.php?langselect=english) finds nothing major.

To be honest, it sounds more like your hard disk is on the way out. I'd backup any important data now (just in case) then run the error checking routine (open "My Computer", right-click on the hard drive and select "Properties", then on the "Tools" tab click the "Check now" button on "Error Checking").

Strange - from this, and what you've said in the other thread, everything seems to point to a hard disk problem. But if it can get through a disk check then it should be okay. Might be worth running it a few times just to be sure.

Sil's suggestion that the RAM might be faulty is a possibility, but it's notoriously difficult to track down errors in RAM - the only real way is to replace it (not particularly easy on a laptop) and see if the problem goes away.

You could try downloading Sandra (the "Lite" version should be free for home use) or something similar and running the RAM benchmarks to see if it throws up any problems.
