Hey copyleft!! So nice to see someone putting the GPL to good use
. I guess, judging that you are a MAC user, that you are veering on the gnu/Linux/Unix side of things, and not this horrible closed source windoze shite!.Richard Stallman... I wonder, have you heard of him?? ![]() Well done for avoiding the Microcack temptations for convenience/laziness scenario!. One day the world will veer more heavily towards Gnu... that day will be the same day MS get flushed down the pan of greed and incompetence!! sooner the better ![]() Best Regards, Matt. |

I saved the webpage months ago for the 2091, here is the info, less all the technical bumf.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. BT Voyager 2091 UNLOCKED! unzip the firmware connect the router to the computer via ethernet in your web browser, go to http://192.168.1.1/ select "Advanced" from the menu enter user/password (default is admin/admin) select "Ugrade" select from pc to router (top of page) browse to previously unzipped file (cfe-rta1025wnz-v328q_a2pb021) select "Ugrade" DO NOT power off during the upgrade! wait a good 5mins all lights should be green on router point web browser at http://192.168.1.1/ again ensure the VPI/VCI setting are set to 0/38 ensure ADSL is connected and web page says "ready to connect" enter broadband login details It should now connect without issue. All credits to Corz, for the info.

I dont av a clue what it could be... If they had said it is Free and the money paid is to cover postage and packing then they would be ok. But they offered it for sale at £x POUNDS (to me anyway) |

Trading Standards locally have been informed about this despicable practice and the BT CEO, Mr Ben Verwaayen has been contacted. I suggest that you do the same:
ben.verwaayen@bt.com Also, express your disgust and disdain with regards to the matter at every possible public opportunity. The Chat section of this forun may be a good place to start.

Hi Guys
I downloaded the file provided by unlokia on the 1st link, and pretty much followed the instructions, The only difficulty I had was when you had to selected "UPGRADE" in the router configuration. But all u do is, select upgrade and then select from the top "from local computer or something" and continue with the instructions, the GUI changed, and i didnt even need to restart or reset the router, I have not tested the wireless functionality yet but i presume it will be all well. BIG THANKS GOING OUT TO UNLOKIA, ZER02004 and everyone else which i cannot name as it will take me too long, Cheers Guy, You have saved a poor man good money |

Thanks to Corz and others for sharing the information.
I flashed my 2091 firmware last night. Everything seemed to be fine, but I couldn't connect to the Internet. Tried reboot the router, reset the router, log in 192.168.1.1, type in the username and pwd, click connect to internet, prompted to wait for 30 seconds, but didn't work. There should be 5 green lights on router I believe, but only 4 on mine. the internet one is not on. Could someone please help me? Thanks |

Yeah I would gladly help you... I suggest purchasing a new router if all else fails, as these routers are *okay* but made VERY cheaply, they overheat AND they only have one eth port.
Just take the plunge dude - or waste more time with a toaster disguised as a router!. Sorry I can't be more help, but to be honest these devices ain't worth wasting much time on. Best Regards. Matt. |

Hi everyone,
am I being dumb or is it time to buy a new router. I have followed the instructions in this thread but when I plug in my 2091 to update the router settings with the new firmware I cannot even get to the webpage 192.168.1.1. My router is connected to power, the dsl and ethernet cables but only the wireless, power and dsl lights are lit. The ethernet light flashes a few times if I reset but never lights up. What am I doing wrong? Thanks so much for any comments! |

Hi Lotta.
Welcome to The Scream! ![]() Have you tried another Ethernet cable to eliminate the possibility that the one in use is faulty. Secondly, check that your Nic card is giving out the correct IP address. Go to Start/Run and type in cmd then press Enter. In the Command window, type in ipconfig /all then press Enter. You should now see a list of IP addresses and other data. The Default Gateway is the one allocated to the Router. EG. Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 If that is not the correct address, then you have a problem. Also the IP address, should be similar. EF. IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2 Sometimes you may get a confliction if the Router is set to Auto DHCP and the Nic card is Manually set to an IP address and Vise Versa. Double clicking on the Connection icon in the systray, will open the Configurator. Click on the Properties button there, then double click on the Internet Protocol TCP/IP entry to open the Properties page. Is that set to Obtain an IP address automatically or a Manually assigned IP address.

I've read the whole thread and would appreciate if anyone can offer any help. I bought my 'locked' 2091 and found the corz website giving full details of how to unlock the router. Unfortunately, I could only get access using USB and not ethernet. I followed the instructions, but part way ( or maybe not) through the upgrade process, my PC said it had 'found new hardware'. I guess this was because the firmware had changed. As such, I think it disconnected it gtom the PC and hence could not finish the firmware upgrade. When running ipconfig, my router reports as 192.168.4.69, whereas before it was 192.168.1.4 NOT 192.168.1.1 as most posts report. I can't trelnet into it on port 23, I can't get access via http:/192 etc and I don't seem to be getting anywhere else via the web. Does anyone here have any ideas please?

I can't seem to ping any other address on the router. Does anyone here have any ideas please?

You should never use USB when flashing a router. You'll need to get an ethernet connection and try Telnet or similar.

Hi tuscanphil.
Welcome to The Scream! ![]() Most of the references I have seen for the 2091, use 192.168.1.1 as the Default Gateway address and a similar number for the IP address assigned to the PC and/or PC's it is connected to. As Zer0, says, the update is via an Ethernet cable not USB, although I have 2 routers that can be upgraded via both cable types, if the firmware is suitable. Are you sure the number you had before, was the Default Gateway address and not the IP address. If it was, then there may have been an attempt to unlock it before. If it is Brand new, then that would not be the case. Possibly reset the Router back to the Factory default settings and connect the Router to the PC using the Ethernet cable. Most have a pinhole reset button and/or a visible reset button on the rear of the Router. The manual should tell you how long to reset it for and any led light sequences. Also make sure your Local Area Connection > Properties > Internet Protocol TCP/IP setting, is set to Assign an IP address automaticlly for now. The website link below, has a lot of Router Web Interface IP addresses. although some might be outdated with newer models/versions, etc. Click on the BT Voyager 2100/2110/2091 name in the list, to reveal the Default Gateway/Web Interface IP address. http://kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm

Hi JR51 and thanks for your quick reply. I'm a novice at this stuff but will do my best to answer your questions. I don't have another ethernet cable so cannot try for a fault from that. Is it worth buying another ethernet cable vs new router? As for the IP address it was set to 0.0.0.0 and there was nothing under default gateway. I tried to change these from the control panel network icon (talktalk online support suggested manually changing them to ip=10.0.0.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway 10.0.0.138 adn then connecting to the last number through a browser) but this didn't work. All my TCP/IP settings are set to Obtain an IP address automatically.
I also tried telnet but nothing there either... Soon to through the whole pc out the window! Lotta |

Please, please, please do not listen to TT "support"!
Disconnect the USB cable, uninstall any USB drivers and any BT software that may also have been installed. Reset the router to factory defaults by using a pin or similar to hold in the reset button for 10 seconds or so. Set Internet Explorers options to "Never Dial A Connection". Now reboot. Disable any software firewalls or other security software that may block access. The default subnet for this router is 192.168.1.0 so your gateway should be 192.168.1.1 and any devices connected to it should have IPs ranging between 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254. Ensure that you are using a straight ethernet cable rather than a crossover. Ensure that your NIC is enabled and that TCP/IP is attached:
