Default Censored for being a H**phrey

I'm not sure if this should be posted here or in the Tiscali forum

Pensioner Herbert Humphreys was refused an email address because his name was "offensive".

Herbert, aged 89, outraged the sensitive filters of his internet provider Tiscali when he asked for an email address using his surname of Humphreys. Tiscali said the naem contained 'a word which is considered offensive' and later upped this to a 'profanity'.

"Which?" asked Tiscali whether, since Humphreys was unlikely to offend it could override its filter. It said it could handle a large number of email subscriptions due to automated procedures and bypassing these was inefficeint - so it wouldn't do it.

Can you think of any other surnames that might be rejected by the Tiscali filters? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

According to the Urban Dictionary
Humphry means a slut.

Oh slightly different spelling I see.

Wonder how Mr D. Balls and Mr R. Ballone from our local telephone directory would fare with a Tiscali email address

I only saw one post for Humphrey on the Urban Dictionary site which seemed to relate to a specific individual rather than a generic slang phrase I'm not aware of.

I'll say it has something to do with Herbert having the word "Hump" in his surname which is about as profane as CBBC.

This in turn, produces mental images of Tiscali board members, sitting around their table, discussing such words as "Bums", "Willies" and "Poo".

Which is really what I thought of them all along.

My daughter worked at Scunthorpe Central Library, where the e-mail addresses used to be in the format xxx@scunthorpe.gov.uk

They could not understand why e-mails were not arriving until they realised that the newly installed profanity filters were working overtime.

Needless to say the address was soon changed to xxx@northlincs.gov.uk

3 or 4 years ago a friends aol account got terminated, never to be revived after a request was made for email address custserv @ aol. com. They were going to use it for a website enquiry address and aol thought my friend was trying to impersonate their customer services department!
He tried to tell them but they had completely wiped his account, emails, the lot and banned him from aol...forever!
