Default Using BT Business Hub (2wire 2700) on cable connection?

Hi, ive been given a BT Business Hub (2wire 2700) and was wandering if its possible for me to plug my ethernet cable from my cable modem into the BT Hub and use it just as a router with the wireless function?

I want to be able to use my desktop pc wired through a ethernet cable to the BT hub and my laptop with the wireless function of the hub.

Any help would be apreciated.

Jason

Yeah.. would appreciate an answer to this one, though I have a feeling, since it's an adsl router, that it won't work... since my d-linkg604t does the same job as the 2700 and won't do it either!

HI,

you will be able to do this depending on the firmware installed on the router.
CAUTION: You will need to go onto the first link above and check if you have a router with v6 firmware which unfortunately has not yet been unlocked.
If your firmware is below v6 then keep reading and follow onto the second link which has the download links and instructions.
http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGV.htm
Once confirmed below v6 please read on.

First of all you will need to install the unlocked firmware onto the router on which you will need to set up the cables in the following order. Connect a cable from the cable modem to your router (BT2700) in the WAN or ADSL port (usually next to the 4 port switch). Another cable running from the router to the wired computer(s). This is the computer which will connect to the router and upgrade to the unlocked firmware.

For the next stage you will need to unlock the firmware to allow it to work a different ISP other than BT. The following link explains what to do.

http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t22658-29.html?
Configure the BT 2700 Router (192.168.1.1) to run on DHCP mode and not e.g. PPPOE

Once complete you will need to power cycle the cable modem and the router.
1. Power off the modem
2. Power off the router
3. Wait for three minutes (no less)
4. Power on the modem and leave running for around 30 seconds
5. Power on the router
Once all devices boot up fine and all the connectivity lights are flashing corresponding to this you are set to go.
Note. You may experience problems viewing hotmail or connecting via MSN with the new firmware. You will need to access the router (192.168.1.1) and change the MTU to manual and set this to 1500.
