Default need some help please on mechanics, if you dont mind, thnx

hi, im thinking about buyin a 1.2 trip vauxhall corsa, however the person that i selling the car, has been advised it wont pass its MOT apparently its due to emissions, i have asked him whats exactley wrong with the emissions, and he dont seem to know. However he has told me that the car is "running rich" could this mean that the fuel pump is letting too much fuel into the engine? if this isnt the problem what else could be the problem, and how would i know? any help is uch obliged thnx, this is my e-mail address':
l_u_k_e_0_4 at hotmail.com or l-robertz at hotmail.com, thanx once again, any help is much obliged

i aint too sure, i think its either a 1995 or a 1998, and i aint sure if the management light is on, you see im thinkin about buying it off ebay, and for me to send him a msg it takes ages for the person to reply, i have sent him a msg asking if its ok to come along and have a look at the car tomoz, and if he says yes then ill go, what could it be if the management light is on? could that mean the there is a fulty lambda sensor?

If its on ebay forget it.

Buy a local one that you can look at and drive.

good luck!

check the outer sills for rust and the front chassis rails.also handbrake cable on either side where the bare cable is routed around a plastic curved bit.jack it up if you can and check rear wheel bearings cos they are quite a comon fail for mot.
they dont tend to fail on much tbh but you can get bad ones.

thank you for all the information, and the main reason why i want this car, is becuz it will b a bargain if it dont need much work doing to it, you know the catalyst converter on a vauxhall corsa, what type are they? are they the honeycomb type, or the ones with the steal balls? also could it be the catalyst converter? thats the reason why it has failed on its MOT? if so how much will that knock me back? once again thank you for all the information your giving me, i appreciate it

a cat should cost around £80 and a lambda sensor around £30 like i said.
honycombe i think for that sort of year, but why do you need to know that?

oh, also i forgot, sometimes just thrashing it down the road can cure the emissions problem,we do that all the time and it works 9 times out of 10.some mot stations won't bother doing this if they think they can sell a new cat.
