Default Netgear DG834GT Wired AND wireless

Somebody help lease.

I have this router. I tried to connect a PC up to one of the wired ethernet ports on the router and all was ok until I tried to ping the laptop running wireless of this router. Thw two do not seem to want to talk to each other.

I have had to resort to using the netgear as just the ADSL modem and another 3COM 54G wireless router as the main router. This works but it means I need the 3com in the mix, and the 3com is not the best, it overheats and when I use p2p, it crashes it.

I need this so that I can plug homeplugs in to the main server, the router and a media server, but still be able to talk to the wireless laptops.

Wifi just doesn;t seem to give the bandwidth for video applications so, I am homeplugging my house where I can.

Thanks.
