I am experiencing a problem with the audio driver on my PC. One minute I have sound, the next I have lost sound... The only way of getting sound back is to reinstall the driver.
Weird thing is that this exact problem started happening on my old PC too... Driver malfunctioning is Realtek high definition audio driver ver:R1.47. I have tried the Realtek site for an updated driver, but, although there IS a new driver, I can't seem to download it as the download goes at something like 1Kbps... Seeing as it's a big-ish (25Mb-ish) file, I'm not persuing that route. Another idea was a download from my m/board manufacturer (ASRock) but they're not listing any updated drivers. Any ideas?

Have you installed the driver as an update from Microsoft? if so, roll back to the earlier driver instead of reinstalling.
Microsoft update drivers often cause issues.

No - no update. The driver I am using is the driver supplied with the m/board.
Have just finished a 2hr d/load of a new Realtek driver, so will see if that improves things...

Thinking laterally, whats the common denominator between your old PC and this one?
Has a piece of software installed taken over the sound drivers, Real player, etc? or perhaps causing a conflict?

I am experiencing the same thing... I don't know what's happening. Now I have sound... now I don't. I can only play system sounds.
When I reinstall the driver I have sound... For example: I install the realtek driver, reboot, and listen to an mp3. Everything's okay. Then, I go to youtube to watch a video and no sound... |

Hi. I don't really know much about this new hi-def sound, but i do know it's more than capable of outputting SPDIF. If you're using analogue speakers or headphones, try disabling / ending the process of any sound managers (there's usually a program that sits in the taskbar). If this still does not work, go to Control Panel and have a look through all settings related to sound. If there are any relating to digital, try and switch to analogue. Also, make sure your speaker setup is set according to the amount of speakers you have (eg select 2 speakers for a desktop or 2.1 speaker set, or 5.1 for a 5.1 surround speaker set)
Hope this helps! |

I built a new PC with Abit NF-M2 mobo with realtek hidef audio .
The volume is feeble from the hidef ports however from the front port ,which is is realtek AC 97 audio port volume is normal. Guess the drivers are not working properly. Any feedback. |

That wont have anything to with the drivers. That'll probably be caused because at the rear panel, you have multiple outputs for surround sound speaker systems, but at the front these are combined into one port, therefore creating louder sound. Well, i asume that's how it works. I haven't took a board with hi-def audio apart yet, but it should be just the same as with any normal surround sound capable board. The one thing i can tell you for sure, though, is that it's definately not the drivers.
