I'm always looking for a bargain and just found one and even more pleased because I've had problems with many ISP's and was looking for a new one. The safest option seems to be BT, rather than people like Carphone warehouse and others who use their own servers. AOL was pretty good but thats gone downhill too, after being bought out by Carphone warehouse.
I was going to go to BT, with an 8mb line for £19.99, when I found Redten internet, who are doing a free laptop a free PC and an 8mb line for the same price. Trying to find the catch, I phoned up and had a long chat with someone who was in the UK and not in an Indian call center and I signed up. Now I'm getting 2 free laptops and an 8mb line for less than AOL were charging me for a 2mb line. Not bad at all. |

suprised you haven't heard the expression,. "no free lunch"
The standard Redten Internet contract runs for three years. good luck cos I think you're going to need it when the sums don't add up and they throttle the hell out of the connection.. Sil |

I have just signed up for the £12.99/month including the desktop pc. Yep you are tied in for 3 years, but at £467 for 3 years internet, with PC, breakdown cover etc, that ain't bad, especially when it is BT 8mb broadband with unlimited downloads. Even if the price of broadband drops to £10/month (which at the moment it is a lot more than that) then you are only paying £100 for the computer with a 3 year warranty. Seems ok to me.

I've seen a couple of other similar 'deals' recently from PC world and Virgin, if I remember correctly. Both of them offered a 'free' laptop for a 2 year contract for BB.
If you don't have (and need) a laptop, they seem like reasonable deals so long as they do actually provide an acceptable service. As Silver says though, "there's no such thing as a free lunch" and you're committed to paying for 2 years.....unless they can be shown to be failing to provide what the contract specifies. Also, other ISP's may provide a better service for similar costs though without giving away a laptop.

I've done the sums and I'm happy, I think Redten is definitely a good deal. A friend of mine has joined to and is getting two laptops. If he sells one and keeps the other, thats his broadband paid for over a year.

These free pc's are rubbish
there is no wonder why they are giving them away there is nothing actually worth getting from this deal only go for it if u dont actually need a new pc and just want the parts because you could seel them for more money |

well - not having used the service,. I would love to hear more from those who signed up
![]() some interesting reviews at http://www.broadbandgenie.co.uk/broa...dten+Broadband 27 March 08 I swapped to Redten about 8 months ago, after placing the order and requesting to get the pc at the same time as they swap the connection, they then swapped my connection and it took 8 weeks to get the laptop! After this point not too bad until 2 weeks ago when the connection was cut off by BT for 1 week until they found a new supplier NJP services. My connection download speed is now 2Kb/s, slower than dial up and still can't get any contact from Redten to find out what is going on. God I wish I had stuck with Tiscali and bought a PC!!!! .. basically lots of RedTen Problems listed - the above post abt better sticking with Tiscali is a good measure of how poor RedTen must be!

I thought REDTEN had gone bust? was it the one in Merseyside?
From what I was reading the customer was signed up to a finance agreement which paid for the laptop and internet access. Any problems or if REDTEN went under and you would be stuck. |
