hi folks I'm back with a new mean fighting machine. 1.9ghz chip and ready to whip a few cancer cells to death. only problem is my last machine suffered terminal death and lost everything. UD id along with all my digital photos from august to present. arrrrh

I've tried contacting UD about reistating my login id etc but no reply yet (2 weeks now!) i shall have to reinstall and start from scratch, I have been running it since 7 April 2001

Glad to be back

Paul

Talking Whole System

Hi All

My whole system fell over today... I couldnt format, couldnt partition. I have two drives both not working (100gb & 40gb). In end I have to

Unpluged the 40gb all together and set the 100gb as master (was slave before)

It would then let me format that drive, and install windows

I then got everything all up and running put the 40gb back on as the slave.

Didnt work.... I ran trusty old chkdisk and all is working

What a day!!! Though it has gone for good

Yep - very good

The size of the work units varies over time, sometimes one unit might take days - it's all do with the molecule (or something )

Units on mine are taking abt 20 hrs or so, but it varies a lot

Welcome to our newest member sills

current stats 31 active members.
Total CPU Time(y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 4:286:21:59:43 (# 1,096)

rank should be below 1000 soon - I'm not sure how many teams there are - but I'm guessing it's over 100,000 ?

heh

sad - well kinda - but not as sad as I'm gonna be

I'm writing (learning php + MySQL) some scripts that'll download the page every day and then plot progress / change for each user. More so I can learn php and for fun and so I can see how my own cpu time / units change over time, which isn't possible with the current udstats page.

Hopefully being able to plot and see (via a webpage) your indivdual progress will add to the interest, tho a lot of the time I just leave it running in background and more or less forget it's there. Turn off the screensaver thing allowing it runs all the time the comp is on (unless you are using your comp to play games or something).

Not sure who some of the users on the list are, I know worldlife's around, haven't seen seaview in a while (hope he's ok!). Rich, louise and Tim are abt occasionally - perhaps they'll start their ud agents up again

I use my PC a lot for work from home doing A lot of rendering and CPU hungry DEsktop Publishing stuff...will this hinder this at all or am I right in thinking that this only runs when you're puter's Idle?

If so it's cool as I leave mine on 24/7, And it can whir away at night.

I've done the D/L and installed no probs. But An error keeps occurring everytime I try to join TS team

Thanks for the reminder BTW. I've been meaning to join this but plain forgot

EDITED 21st JAN
CANCEL that - I'm on the team (Yes fraid so )

mustve been a glitch with their server

Welcome to the team fb

Welcome also 'Raven House fram'

It shouldn't interfere with anything, there's basically 2 ways of setting it up, one is as a screensaver, the other is as an idle process (meaning it runs whenever the comp is idle). I run it on 2 comps a p200 and a pII450 as an 'idle process' and I never have any probs, I keep it running all the time, even when playing FPS games. Running as an idle process should mean it works more of the time

The only setting I've really needed to change is one under 'My Device Manager' (on the left) - then click the 'Selected Profile / Default' part, to uncheck the 'Exodus Web Performance Testing'. I'm not sure if that still needs to be done in order to get it to only run the cancer thingy.

The agent doesn't seem to require much disk space at all, I have mine set to the lowest (100 megs) but it never seems to use hardly any disk at all

Cheers Sil......thanks for that answer.

I've got mine to work when idle.....

So far its been going 32hrs 7mins and it's on 58%.....

Don't know it that's good or bad.....but it's a great cause so lets hope it's good

heh - some units take an hour - some take 100 hours,, most of mine probably take less than 10, I seem to be doing a 'long one' at the momemt, it's an 'RAF' molecule 60 hours and 83 %

Was over at n4n, in one of their ud threads here I made the cursory observation we are catching them up

Someone (TNT) on n4n has said ..
but you have no hope of catching this hardcore N4N outfit
n4n stats is on just over 7 years cpu time,, an we're on 5.. so not far to go to over take them
