Schoolboy error: I signed up for this great deal *ahem* and now I've read all the reviews/posts all over the net about how bad it really is. I'm getting poor speeds from the day I signed up - can't even browse web pages during peak times which is just a joke!
I signed up 25th June over the phone and went live 10th July. I want to cancel my account. Will I have to pay the full 12 months or can I cancel? |

Sounds like you might be in your 10 day stabilization period. You will need to get through this before you look at any kind of speed issues. Whilst this is going on, remember to turn your router/modem off when not in use.
As for cancelling, I should imagine you will have to pay the full 12 months. |

Whats the stabilization period? never heard of that.
I just assumed they take over the line and turn it on - full stop. After reading all the posts/reviews (not just on this forum) - I probably will just pay up because i'd rather not go through the frustration of not being able to browse normal web pages like I am doing now. |

in theory when your adsl is first connected it goes through a training period to work out at what speed you line will be stable
having said that it's possible the web page loading issues are related to the isp itself (or possible something wrong with your PC) have you had adsl / broadband before and what speeds did you get then I would call them up and make a complaint about surfing,. also get the address of their head office and put in a complaint recorded delivery,. do this asap as it might help when/if you want to cancel - IMO (I am not a lawyer) but if you can't even surf the net during peak times then the service is unfit for use and you should be allowed to cancel w/o paying |

I was with a different supplier for 5 years - its never been this slow just browsing pages in the evenings since ive been with tiscali. I was only on 2 meg and it was quicker than the 4 meg tiscali said i could get.
i've read loads of posts now, does anyone ever get anywhere with this complaining? The bottom line is will it improve the speed of my internet? Thanks Sukh |

complaining to tiscali tends to be a fruitless exercise,. but there's always a chance it could do something,. personally I would this minute write a letter of complaint and say you wish to cancel,. - that is if you know the slow speed is down to the ISP (bit upseting switching to another ISP only to have the same issue!)

you should have the 30 days to cancel under the sale of goods distance selling act, plus the isp may operate a 15 days from go live to cancel without penalty, but at the end of the day, as you said you have had faster speeds before the switch to tiscali, pointing to them, not bt not the line equipment etc etc it would not suddenly just go slow on its own,it down to tiscali not providing the bandwidth and its unlikely that they will do this either, what i would do is write your letters of cancellation, to the Soho office HQ, and the Milton Keynes address both recorded, and make ofcom aware of this now,and keep the reference number safe,as its been said its a pointless exercise and a costly one ringing tiscali on the phone, and afterwards you are no further along getting things sorted out

Omg...i just get tiscali package and im already up for canceling, even free wifi netgear we get here around is working better than this broadband...Is it true that information about that you can leave this provider in first 30 days if conection sux so much? I would love to try to leave, but all i read up here gives me no idea how could i manage it. Seems they will work all agains me at all cost. That was realy stupid idea to choose without geting more informations. Can't play a single game with this connection...

thats a tiscali connection for you lag city, prob a fully interleaved connection and i very much doubt you could get them to lower interleaving depth they would not even know what you was talking about if you asked them ,trust me i know i asked them,as for the being able to cancel within the first 30 days of sign up date, yes its law and even in tiscalis t&s distance and selling act,but they would argue that that would only be if they failed to actually connect you within that time frame,i bet,but there should be a cooling off period of 10 or 15 days after go live, my isp does that, after my experiences with tiscali, with hindsight i would of not had them as my isp for the full term (12months) before getting rid, i would of done so asap as for me there was no gains at all by staying with them, just a useless connection throttled to death, and interleaved,so what i should of done was contacted ofcom and cisas straight away and 12weeks later i could of been nearly free ,but as many people you give them the benefit of the doubt falling for their bull each time mean while they are continuing to be paid for the same crap service, that almost certainly will not improve,as they don't care at all, they just keep on bull-ing you and taking the dollar for as long as they possibly can,it maybe a negative view but i take all people as i find them, and as far as i'm concerned i wish every potential customer only knew beforehand just what they would be getting into by becoming a tiscali customer, and if i knew a way that this could be done i would do it,as it is all truthful no bull from me,and if they at tiscali did not like it then all they have to do is start giving customers value for money, instead of just trying to be the cheapest isp, even though they have a lot of customers the price is quite possibly the reason for non existent support and a overstretched system that clearly cannot cope with the demand, no or very little investment
