Paralogic anti-virus froze and could not be closed. Eventually had to cut mains after which there was a quick flash of other start programs coming on before screen went dead.
On restart the Asus Motherboard screen comes up but Del to run setup not functioning nor Tab to display Bios Post Message. Computer has floppy disc but putting one in does not give "not a system disc" neither does the USB Guess the CD should therefore be the system disc but neither Asus motherboard software or XP home CDs have any effect. If I can find the right software if I remember correctlhy this Fujitsu Siemens laptop was not prepared to make system discs on CD or USB Suggestons appreciated but I am no guru whizzkid!!! Can you get into the BIOS? If so try turning off the Asus logo display, it's possible the normal boot screen will give you a bit more informatiion.
*edit* Just re-read your post and it looks like you can't get in there. Sorry, I'll try to think of something else.

Thanks Bouncing John
Have been trying various solutions all evening needing the power to be shut off to restart and using the computer power switch. Thinking of giving up for the night and spitefully switched off and then on again at the mains. Low and behold the system has restarted. It's just the question of knowing which switches to turn on and off when the system fails. Any ideas why this violent action worked? May get rid of Pareto as the database updates take far too long in comparison with say AVG PS Made new Windows start up floppy - but would it have sorted out this problem? |

I was just going to post that it sounded like your BIOS was corrupt, but obviously not. I don't know why flicking switches violently would work, but it sounds a bit like the engineer's final solution: "if all else fails, hit it with a hammer".

Obviously flicking mains switch instead of turning on and off computer power gives the system a substantial boot
![]() This should be added to the computer engineers handbook! Thanks. |
