Angry Ie7

Windows Vista SP1
IE keeps freezing on me and I have to reboot!
I have the latest update, tried disabling add ons etc. Having to log in all forums again after that!
Nothing seems to help the issue!

Most grateful for any input on this.

Twinkle: rather than re-booting; have you tried closing IE7 in the Task Manager? Press the control, shift and escape keys at the same time, click on the "Processes" tab, then on iexplore.exe in the list that appears and then on "End process" (you'll probably also have to confirm that you do want to close it - just click "Yes"). Won't stop ie7 freezing, but might save you some time.

Hiya.

Just try FireFox and see if you like it or not.

When it asks to make it the default browser, say NO.

If you dont like it, you can always uninstall it again.

http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/

I have tried IE7 and dont like it at all, it looks cheap and nasty, very few settings, its a plain looking amateurish attempt in my eyes for kiddies.

Hiya.

It sounds like a Memory or heat problem to me.

A new unit shouldnt in theory, cause all these problems.

Check all cables are tightly fitted to the PC and Monitor, make sure nothing is blocking the vents on the PC and keep away from direct heat of, fires, heaters, etc.

What make and model is it.

PS. I assume you have done the usual infection scans, lol.

HP model Done all scans, just disabled Adobe add-on as that often flashes up on occasions when it freezes. Defiantly not hot in this caravan.

Hiya.

I need the model number, I know its an HP It should be on the front, or rear panel. EG. HP S3614

Where did you buy it from.

How much memory has it got ?

Are you running it with all the trial and garbage they pre-install on it ? you dont need 99% of it.

Cant see anything that pokes me in the eye from that log.

I wonder if there are any security/firewall programs conflicting with each other.

Is Vista's firewall enabled along with Zonealarm ?

Vista mucks up everything! Just found out I have to run all programs as admin! Never saw that right click run as admin! Just install all again except my e-mail program, which has a minor problem! Probably have to re-install it again! Hate having to ok everything before running! I will see how IE is today, have not been on long enough for trial yet.
I might be back. Many thanks for help.

Hiya.

You should be Admin anyway if you are the only user on the PC.

Check you account credentials in Start > Control Panel > User Accounts.

Click on the Change your account type, it should be set to Administrator.

You hate having to OK everything before running it, is that the annoying Do you really want to open/run this folder/program garbage ??

If so, you can turn that off in your User Account area in the link for Turn User Account Control On or Off, its in the same menu as the Change your account type.

Your re-installing everything ? it may have been better to install one thing at a time and wait to see if it affected the PC.

I hope you arent importing all the installed junk from the old PC again, I think that was the cause of most of the problems you encountered in the first place, Vista likes new installs, not old ones, as I said before in a previous post.

After a quick search in Google, you are not alone with IE 7 freezing up. Most recommend using FF.

Did you import any installed programs from the old PC again ?

Installed all old programs again today apart from ICM my e-mail program, keep getting script error! Adware now seems better on update and found two naughties. They might have been my problem. Just have to wait and see. Back on comp about 8pm. Hopefully!

Since being back on comp every time it froze, ran adware and it finds tracking cookies! Might have to bear with it and send to restricted area until they stop! Fingers crossed

Hiya.

What I need to know is, did you import old programs and data files to the new PC.

It may be, one or more of those are infected in some way and is re-infecting the new PC.

Did the new PC ever work correctly before importing the old files, etc.

No offence meant either, but it may be best to keep to one thread, you have 3-4 threads going now and its becoming confusing as they all seem to relate to the same type of problem or contain new occurrences that seem very related.

Tracking cookies. shouldnt affect the PC in the way you describe the PC is acting.

Yes I did import all programs from old PC, as I could not get on the net for 5 weeks as Sky had to cap me. Not much else I could do.

Firefox has a few minor issues, when it does its updates----but that may be only in Vista, not sure about that. Like sometimes it loses my navigation bar and I have to go into the Tools and put it back manually.

It's all the unknown ones and the new ones that they have put in that you'll have to look out for!

I've used Firefox for some while now but for the last couple of months I've also been using Yahoo Chrome.

Oh, and the Beta for IE8 is well and truly out but I'm not even going to give it a sniff!

PS Why do you promote a US site njwoods?
