Default Phone numbers?

Can my wife and I have individual phone numbers for our mobiles and then a common phone number on each mobile to be used for calling either of us?
Two SIM cards in each phone? Does this exist or is there another way?

Failing this; can my wife and I each have a mobile phone with the same phone number?
How do I ring her or she me?

Any make or type of phone and any service provider...

as you point out you can't have a phone with the same number, each is unique

having said that there is likely a way to do a group number,. so a specific number than can be directed to both phones - at least on a pbx this is possible - you might need a business account or special service from somewhere or rig something up yourself

if you can explain what you are trying to do / needing it for might be easier to think up ideas

silver,
I was also thinking along the lines of a PBX system.

At present I have two BT lines. Recently I was charged £184.91 + VAT to replace a wall socket accidentally damaged by my handicapped daughter which means that BT is no longer an option. Mostly in connection with our daughter we get a lot of indivdual calls and also calls which need to be handled by both of us.

Conceptually my wife and I would each have a mobile phone. 'Somewhere' there would be something like a virtual PBX with its own mobile phone number. Calls to this third line would be automatically routed to both our mobile phones, like a conference call. There would be no need (even if it were possible?) to make outgoing calls on this third line but obviously it would need to support two-way conversation.

Initially I would keep one BT line for broadband and incoming calls only. When our respondents get used to our system and mobile broadband looks worthwhile then I would cancel this BT line.

I like your D70 photos,
Peter

thanks Peter

I haven't taken many images just for fun these days so the gallery is not frequently updated!

it wouldn't be automatic in any sense but it's possible on some / most mobile networks to conference in another number, it would not be quite the same of course but would be the most simple option, so give ppl the number to one of the phones (or both perhaps) and the other line can be conferened in as required

I am guessing that one or more of the mobile operators will have a group number system that forwards to one number if that's not answered it will try the next,. but that would still need the second line conferenced in

the mobile broadband you mention is interesting - won't be long till skype and a mobile broadband system is an option (if it isn't already)

PS, again not quite the same but there's some weird 'ptt' push to talk systems kicking around that make mobiles a bit like walkie talkies - so multiple ppl chat all on the same 'channel' - no idea how it works or if that would help at all
