Hiya i hope somebody can help
I have a laptop with vista home premium and a desktop pc with vista home premium. I want to be able to remote desktop from the laptop to the desktop which i thought would be easy but i cant get it to work. Both machines connect to the internet via a wireless router so ip address are 192.168.0.x I cant ping one another however if i go to view computers and devices both machines see each other (name) however when clicking they cant share files.... even though file sharing is switched on! This should be possible to do what i want right? p.s. i did do a search and found a thread regarding remote desktop but it never helped answer my question hence new thread. appreciate any help |

Looks like a firewall blocking the connection/pings
You need to open the rdp port on the server (desktop's firewall);3389 TCP according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...P_port_numbers |

Just noticed that you are running home versions of the OS so you will not have the RDP server. So ignore my previous post.
Look at using VNC (realvnc, tightvnc) Free versions Or for connection from the internet look at teamviewer, logmein etc (also free versions should do what you need) |
