Re 0203 455
On Friday 9th March Telecom2 started to receive a number of complaints about these calls to our customer care line from the general public. It started to emerge that someone was indiscriminately auto dialling to UK phone numbers and using “CLI spoofing”. We started to investigate the numbers being spoofed to try and find out more about this traffic and see if we could stop it. Subsequently we have had lengthy discussions with Ofcom and BT which has resulted in the following information and action taken: • Large volumes of calls originating from another carrier (not Telecom2) were coming into BT • Earlier in the week the same thing was happening but they were presenting another company’s number as the CLI • The calls present spoofed CLIs, these are the Telecom2 numbers, and those customers that ring the numbers back get through to the legitimate numbers presented. • Telecom2 blocked all the numbers that they were told were being presented to the end user, all this means however is the customer ringing back cannot get through, it has no effect on the outbound calling. • The calls stopped coming through by 5.30pm on Friday • Ofcom are satisfied that all reasonable steps were being taken to stop the flow of traffic and reduce consumer harm. One of the other companies affected by this has used the following analogy which we feel is a good summary: One of our customers described it as having your car stolen and used for a robbery and then being accused of doing the robbery. Which is pretty much how it has felt? We will of course remain vigilant to any developments or escalation. So once again we apologise if this has affected you but please be assured we were not party to this and we have attempted to stop all actions of these people whoever they may be. |

http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/02034550262 http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/01213140002 and this
http://www.whophonedme.co.uk/prefix/02034 yes unfortunately that is known as marketing in the uk today yes that is exactly what Telecom2 claim their numbers can be used for of course not yes but when the calls from the thousands of complaining public are being made they are seeing a 'spoofed' number but dialling a real number to Telecom2, and when these calls leave the Telecom2 'exchange' it is carried on their clients real number, and are there interconnect charges-how do Telecom2 earn money from calls on these 01 02 numbers?-are there interconnect fees between carriers Last edited by El Gringo; 13-March-2012 at 23:17. |
