Smile Music and Memories

Was just in another thread and was reminded of my late teens when I loved nothing more than to go out on my motorbike(moped ), spend loads of time with friends and generally not have a care in the world It was a very carefree existence

I loved Pink Floyd, I used to spend hours sitting quietly listening to them - and still do sometimes I also remember really liking a group called, I think, The Alex Harvey band, though I haven't found anything by them for a long long time. Fleetwood Mac is another group that brings back some lovely memories for me I never really got 'into' punk rock, but went through a stage as a New Romantic, wearing winkle picker shoes, and a really odd hairstyle where my fringe was the shape of a triangle, oh, and seriously thick black eye-liner which I put on once out of distance of the family home

Went into isolation with Joan Baez records for several days when there was a possibility the romance with my future wife might be ended.

I remember a song from our honeymoon days

I can't get no satisfaction

Karen,

Sadly, Alex Harvey died some time ago, or did you know that?

Sabean.....I really got into Punk in a big way.........

First Punk and then Punk with Mod Music...ska.......I'd never listen to anything else.........

I got into this mode where I'd refuse to listen to any thing like Floyd, Zeppelin, Genesis etc........even though i LOVED this music before punk came along...........

but about 10 years ago I started to "rediscover" all this music I turned away from........

I find a CD I play a lot now is "Trick of the Tail" by Genesis......

a CLASSIC!

Ska! I'd forgotton about that

Used to love doing the 'moon stomp' to Selector, Bad Manners, Bodysnatchers', and the like

Incidentally, Buster Bloodvessel doesn't live too far away from me, he runs a guest house now

That's REVOLTING!!

I've not been to see too many bands. I saw the Police while their Roxanne hit was out, and a group called Gonzales who ended up having a one hit wonder with 'Haven't Stopped Dancing'. They were a bit rubbish I thought

But, I DO have tickets to see Roger Waters' 'In The Flesh' at Wembley in June - already excited

Id' have to say though that the saddest thing from the Ska thing......

was the skinhead following it had........

could never quite figure that one out.......

I mean Ska is a multi-racial music........

I remember being s@#t scared watching The Specials at Lanchester Poly in Coventry.(their home town),,,,,

and a massive fight broke out between knive wielding skins and some west indian guys........

The ironic thing is that if you looked on stage.....half the BLOODY band were black!

BiGOTS you cannot fathom them can you!

We used to go to a lot of gigs I must say.......

But with the arrival of kids.........heavier work-loads.........

disintigrating bodies

We've not been to a good gig since......hmmmmmmmm

Elvis Costello has to be the last about 2 years ago...

We get loads of good bands in Leicester......and we always say.....we must go and see them...........

but we never do!

That's got to be my New Year's Revulsion........

must get out more!

When I used to take the walkman to and from school on the bus in the 6th form (mine was a cheap one which was similar in dimensions and weight to a housebrick) I used to listen to Tangerine Dream almost all the time, plus I had a tape with Aqualung and Broadsword and the Beast on it (Jethro Tull) and one with Dark side of the Moon and Wish you were here.

My tastes have barely changed in as many years again, whilst I listen to a lot more stuff, those are still amongst my favourites

I can only claim Cropredy folk festival in the late 80's as it was (as always) Fairport Convention.

Jill, I think we have been here before once or twice. I just feel obliged to mention whenever favourite pieces of music are being discussed, and to play it loud. No other reason to have a detached house really
