Default questions about progs that load at startup

Things like Clone CD insist on loading at startup, and there is no option in preferences to tell it not to. And it's getting on my nerves as i don't use it that often! Same with other progs. How can i stop them, provided they don't appear in the startup prog list under the start button?
Thx

Edit - Just read your post more carefully after giving instructions to get to the startup list using msconfig, but it seems you know about that. In which case; I'm stumped.

Edit2 - actually, it looks like you were talking about the menu in startup, rather than the msconfig version - in which case see post below.

Edit3 - Just in case you're wondering what I originally posted: If you're using windows 98: click "Run" on the Start menu - enter "msconfig" (without the quotes), click "OK" then click on the "startup" tab. You'll get a list of the programs that execute on startup - just untick the box next to the ones you don't won't to run. Then "Apply"/"OK" and restart your computer.

If you're on WinME I believe that you can download a copy of msconfig, but I'm not sure where it can be got from (Microsoft site?)

Arrow Try this

Start/Run... Type in msconfig, click OK.... Click on startup tab, then untick the progs you do not want to run at startup.
Works in "Me"

Also some ultilties like Mcafee Office have bits in that allow you to do the same..

BouncingJohn great minds think alike... I have a fresh install of "Me" and its there on mine..

If there is anything you are unsure of, have a look for it on This List - it will tell you if you can safely disable most things. I have found it very useful.
